At Xbox Game Studios (XGS), Publishing we think of each of our games as a franchise, designed to reach millions of players and engage them for hundreds of hours. We think about achieving this goal through the lens of paying close attention to what motivates our players to keep playing their favorite games.


As the Director of Business Management for XGS, Publishing, you will join our Publishing Core Team where we oversee more than half a dozen games with internal dedicated teams managing world-class development partners and talent within a wide range of genres and models. You will be a leader helping to create and optimize business strategies and tactics that focus on attracting and retaining players and achieving profitability in our games. You will be responsible for evolving sustainable business models for our games spanning subscription, free to play, retail and digital sales as well as post sale monetization with the goal of growing active users and achieving predictable revenue across all platforms within the Xbox Live ecosystem.


You can look forward to close collaboration with internal Xbox Production teams, our Marketing and Communication teams, and our Finance team to establish, maintain and evolve our game P&Ls and Performance Marketing plans.

As a business leader within the Publishing Core Team you will be working with our business managers and product champions to drive profitability, increased engagement, and develop monetization strategies for all our games.


Responsibilities


  • Partner with multiple Xbox Publishing team leaders on project business plans and analytics to provide ongoing feedback and insight into business strategy, business models and investments/ROI decisions including changes to financial PORs, variance analysis, scenario modeling and sensitivity analysis across all Publishing products & services portfolio.


  • Drive analysis around emerging business models, new product opportunities and potential distribution channels for our games’ products and services


  • Drive our teams to deeply understand our player bases and businesses to develop actionable insights backed by both quantitative and qualitative data. Specifically, make certain that each of our teams is providing continual visibility and business insight into game title performance with data analysis and modeling to accurately project engagement targets, revenue performance and expenses.


  • Collaborate with Xbox Production Teams and Development Partners on business-related feature roadmaps and planning


  • Provide inputs and assumptions for all financial business planning processes for Publishing including: Long Range Planning (LRP), Annual Target Setting, Quarterly Forecasting, Fiscal Year Budgeting and Monthly Close


  • Partner with Finance to conduct ongoing Publishing operating expense, headcount and game P&L reviews with the Publishing Core team


  • Consult with all Product Champions, Finance Partners, and Marketing Team to create Product P&L and Game Sustain Plans


  • Standardize business reporting and data analysis methods


  • Drive post-launch, game-focused monetization features based on quantitative performance while staying aligned with the game’s qualitative goals


  • Collaborate with Marketing to maintain Performance Marketing planning and execution


  • Collaborate with Game Pass creating unique value for our players within our industry-leading game subscription service

Qualifications


  • 10+ years relevant work experience, preferably in the entertainment industry: video games, product management, finance/consulting with technology focus (or related), or a fast-paced start-up


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail and reporting accuracy. Demonstrated ability to turn data-driven analysis of complex situations into actionable insights and recommendations


  • Success driving business results for service-based consumer experiences, with emphasis on game experiences.


  • Very strong interpersonal skills (written and oral) and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of levels of personnel. Deep commitment to building strong partnerships is required with ability to uncover hidden needs and ideas, earn trust, and motivate stakeholders


  • Excellent organizational and program management skills, with proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing tasks/priorities, reprioritizing as necessary to align with current business objectives


  • Detailed oriented & thorough, ability to think “big picture” and understand key trends and levers that drive the business


  • Strong understanding of the game space, trends, KPIs


  • Customer focus: You relentlessly work towards outcomes that delight our players and serve our community


  • High tolerance for ambiguity and ability to analyze/diagnose complex product and business challenges, formulate insights and recommendations, and motivate the broader organization to action with limited guidance


  • Desire to learn: you have never ending curiosity in how the entertainment and technology sectors are evolving and you are eager to learn more


  • Bachelor's degree


  • Experience working with game teams to prioritize features and deliver products on time


  • MBA preferred
