Job Summary


The Remediation Department in the Environmental Business Line of AECOM is seeking an experienced Environmental Remediation Team Leader for immediate employment with the Remediation Department in the Orange, California office.


The Orange, California team executes a wide variety of environmental assessment and remediation projects for industrial, municipal, oil and gas, and commercial clients in the private sector. The selected individual will lead a team of 8 to 10 staff working with six other team leaders.


The selected individual will report directly to the Department Manager.


  • Performs various management, leadership, and people accountability responsibilities.


  • Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments.


  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of science and engineering.


  • Plans and develops scientific tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.


  • Maintains liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization.


  • Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience.


  • Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.


  • Manages group of scientists and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.


  • Responsible for utilizing his or her environmental technical experience and project management skills to help our clients navigate their environmental challenges.


  • Responsible for the management and execution of various multi-media environmental projects.


  • Must be able to maintain and develop client relationships.


  • Manage environmental compliance projects/programs.


  • Directly supervise, mentor and develop junior staff.


  • Contribute to achieving the Environmental Business Line’s financial goals.

Minimum Requirements


BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or AA/AS with 10 years of relevant experience.


Must have valid U.S. Driver's license.


Must be able to travel as needed.


Due to the nature of the work, must be a U.S. Citizen


Preferred Qualifications


  • BA / BS in Geology, Civil or Environmental Engineering


  • Professional certification


  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.


  • Experience with health & safety processes and compliance.


  • Project management experience directly related to environmental compliance projects from proposal development through completion for an environmental consulting firm (i.e., developing proposals/cost estimates, managing clients, projects, and project teams; coordinating resources and managing subcontractors; etc.). Ability to independently manage various environmental projects and programs ranging in size and scale.


  • Previous experience managing staff resources.


  • Experience working with communicating and working with various regulatory agencies


  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills; extremely proficient in technical writing; highly effective organization and multi-tasking skills.


  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands, think strategically and successfully lead multiple simultaneous projects.


  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, judgment and problem-solving capabilities.


  • Experience mentoring junior staff and leading project teams for environmental remediation work.


  • Ability to support business development efforts, including preparation of technical and cost proposals, to grow our environmental remediation work with existing and new clients.
