Client Technology (CT) - focuses on developing new technology services for our clients. It enables EY to identify new technology-based opportunities faster, and pursue those opportunities more rapidly.


Enterprise Technology (ET) – ET supports our Core Business Services functions and will deliver fit-for-purpose technology infrastructure at the cheapest possible cost for quality services. ET will also support our internal technology needs by focusing on a better user experience.


Information Security (Info Sec) - Info Sec prevents, detects, responds and mitigates cyber-risk, protecting EY and client data, and our information management systems.


The opportunity


The Information Management Technology organization is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of programs to develop and maintain Ernst & Young’s global business intelligence, EDW and MDM platforms. The team is geographically dispersed and comprises of all disciplines required to deliver IT solutions for our customers, including project managers, business analysts, software engineers, quality assurance & testers and implementation managers. In addition the function works closely with the Enterprise & Solution Architecture and Infrastructure & Operations teams.


The EDW Data Engineer is responsible for defining and managing the data structures required to support the enterprise through the EDW program. This role must understand the corporate data associated with the business processes, and should be able to determine how to best represent them, clearly identifying dimensions and associated facts. This person should master dimensional model and also be able to understand other BIG-Data data model techniques, in addition to traditional ER models. This person must also be capable of teaching these techniques to other members of the team as needed. The data architect must manage the balance of current and future needs in both design and content. He/she must also resolve semantic discrepancies in data definitions that arise among multiple sources and projects. This person will be working both with the Business / Data Analyst and the developers to manifest effectively the physical models.


Within EDW domain, the Data Architect requires additional mastery of Business Intelligence concepts that support analytics, KPIs, metrics, dimensions, attributes and business processes (including but not limited to, those that ultimately are delivered as reports and data interfaces). Proficiency in related processes such as system analysis, data analysis/profiling, dimensional modeling, project management, methods & tools and quality assurance is also required.


The Data Architect must have significant experience in stakeholder relationship management skills to successfully manage the customer and stakeholders. Coaching, subject matter expertise within EDW and the proven ability to deliver robust dimensional models that accurately represent business processes are critical to this role.


Your key responsibilities


  • Maintaining enterprise conceptual, logical, and physical data models, mostly dimensional models


  • Creating data models that conform to existing standards and conventions


  • Providing leadership and guidance with enterprise data strategies


  • Revising data dictionary definitions, governance practices, and standards


  • Partnering with security architects to ensure compliance with data security and privacy mandates


  • End-to end data lifecycle management activities


  • Evaluating and recommending new and emerging data management and storage technologies and standards


  • Ensuring consistency between data management, enterprise storage and all other technical system components

Skills and attributes for success


  • Selecting the appropriate methods to elicit the detail business rules to be represented in the model relationships


  • Enriching the data model standards to ensure easy and consistent maintenance of the models


  • Assessing change requests to minimize data redundancy


  • Determining ‘fit for purpose’ requirements

To qualify for the role you must have


  • Proven track record of successful delivery of requirements to time and cost for large, complex business intelligence projects typically $1-$5m in value and 6-18 months in duration within a broader multi-year global business intelligence program


  • Experience with ERwin Data Modeler or a comparable data modeling tool


  • Track record of dealing with challenging stakeholders, developers and architects during facilitated sessions and during the development lifecycle


  • Proven customer focus and stakeholder management experience based on openness, trust, and delivering on promises


  • Understanding of information systems and data life-cycle management best practices and methodologies, formal systems engineering life cycle (SELC), and systems development life cycle (SDLC)


  • Experience with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), web services, enterprise data management, information security, applications development, and cloud-based architectures with federal clients is desired


  • Experience with enterprise data management technologies, including database platforms, ETL tools, BIG-Data and SQL


  • Solid understanding and experience with multidimensional models.


  • Understanding of two or more industry standard frameworks, including DAMA, DMBOK, or Zachman Framework


  • Strong team working skills across matrixed client, supplier and geographically dispersed virtual teams


  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (includes negotiation)


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing


  • Expected to act independently to deliver appropriate program/project requirements to schedule, budget and scope


  • Leads one or more team members consisting of cross functional, global, and virtual groups; may need to supervise staff and assign responsibility to other team members; monitors progress as per documented scope


  • Coaches, mentors and supports less experienced business analysts

Ideally, you’ll also have


  • A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; or equivalent work experience


  • Kimball’s Dimensional Modeling is a must – certification is a plus


  • TDWI / DAMA certifications are a plus

What we look for


  • 10+ years in a corporate IT environment


  • 8+ years experience in data architecture delivering within large global projects


  • 5+ years experience within business intelligence (Enterprise Reporting, Analytics and Data Warehousing). MDM is a plus.


  • Work experience in a professional services industry, preferred


  • Work experience in a global role, preferred
