Position Description:


Nevada Gold Mines is looking for a Habitat Program Manager to join our team. The Habitat Program Manager functionally reports directly to the Ranch Operations Manager, within the Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) Lands, Permitting and Ranches group. In addition, the Habitat Program Manager communicates and coordinates with mine site operations and environmental personnel, executive management, outside consultants, regulatory agencies, conservation partners, and stakeholders on the business and mitigation aspects of the ranch.


Responsibilities:



  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, environment, community, and the ability to work safely
  • Manages implementation, planning, and budgeting for sage-grouse credit programs (Bank Enabling Agreement and Conservation Credit System)
  • Interact with Long Canyon Mine Staff and agency partners within the Technical Working Group for Relict Dace conservation and planning efforts
  • Manages implementation, planning and budgeting for Ranch related habitat and forage based rehabilitation projects
  • Supervises and manages, ecology, field, and monitoring staff tasked with implementation of the BEA and CCS projects and/or manages Conservation Partners with the implementation of BEA and CCS projects.
  • Interact with Ranch Business Manager to ensure leased ranch managers BEA and CCS requirements and expectations
  • Interact with ranch livestock and farming foreman to provide environmental guidance on day to day agricultural production
  • Monitors rangeland health, sage brush program implementation effectiveness, and habitat conditions
  • Oversees preparation of reports to mine sites and external agency partners for mitigation programs supporting operations
  • Interacts and negotiates with local, state, and federal agencies on habitat rehabilitation projects and BEA and CCS implementation
  • Manages details and agency coordination/NEPA process for the Outcome Based Grazing and Targeted Grazing projects from a technical standpoint
  • Oversees data collection and management and GIS administration for the ranches and associated mitigation programs
  • Acts as an Environmental Manager for NGM's ranching enterprise to ensure environmental compliance across all of NGM's ranches
  • Other environmental and mitigation tasks as assigned

Qualifications:



  • Eight or more years of experience in rangeland or wildlife ecology
  • Sound understanding and experience in management of ecosystem programs and cost accounting of habitat rehabilitation
  • Sound understanding of grazing rights compliance on federal lands and private lands in Nevada
  • Solid understanding of large-scale mining operations and associated mitigation programs and policies
  • Proven technical expertise and sound understanding of environmental laws, policies, objectives and issues is required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with internal staff, regulators, and other stakeholders is required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills are required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a fast-moving team is required
  • Ability to travel routinely between multiple ranch sites is required
  • Willingness to work at an on-site ranch based office is required
