Have you always dreamed of working in the OR? Are you a current RN with at least 1 year of acute care experience? The OR Plus program is for you! Southern Hills Hospital has a unique opportunity with the StaRN Plus.


Accelerate your nursing career by joining our Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN) program! We invite registered nurses to apply for a unique opportunity to have didactic and clinical training by HealthTrust (a part of the HCA family).


The cohort start date is 9/21/2020 and attendance is mandatory during the first 10 weeks of didactic learning.


The StaRN OR Plus program provides a pathway for experienced to transition into the OR setting with a strong core of nursing fundamentals and critical thinking skills by utilizing the following:


22‐Week training



  • Ten (10) weeks of interactive classroom discussions, case studies, hands‐on skills training, OR skills days with experienced StaRN clinical instructors
  • Twelve (12) weeks of unit‐based clinical preceptorship

Interactive classroom lectures/discussions



  • Curriculum based on Evidence‐based practice, National Standards and HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence
  • Basic Dysrhythmia
  • AHA Basic Life Support / Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Meditech (EHR) hands‐on training • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention
  • Perioperative medication management
  • TeamSTEPPS® training
  • AIDET, SBAR, Patient Experience, Falls and more

AORN Perioperative 101 Core Curriculum – Online lessons covering a wide range of topics relevant to Perioperative nursing


Hands‐on Perioperative skills training, that includes but not limited to:



  • IV and phlebotomy
  • Indwelling catheter, NG and PEG tube
  • IV and PCA pump management
  • Blood administration
  • Surgical positioning
  • Scrubbing, gowning and gloving
  • Drain Identification and sponge counts
  • Instrument identification and counting

Qualifications


Qualifications:



  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred.
  • Candidates must have previous acute care experience
  • Independently maintains license
  • Acquires required contact hours to maintain license
  • Must be licensed by the state of Nevada
  • Training will include BLS/ACLS certification
  • Self-motivated and strong communication skills required
