The Records and Information Manager, reporting to the Director, Legal Operations, oversees all aspects of managing electronic and physical records within the company, and will help transition Kemper's Records and Information Management ("RIM") program to a broader information governance program.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage the record retention and disposition function in compliance with the company's records retention policy and applicable schedules and procedures
  • Manage offsite storage inventory and vendor relationships, including the coordination of activities with vendors providing storage, shredding, imaging and other related services
  • Develop strategies and implement updates that modernize records management processes, enhance compliance, and ensure the security, accessibility and defensible disposition of stored information across the enterprise
  • Collaborate with Records Coordinators and Specialists in all offices to execute RIM projects and monitor compliance
  • Partner with legal, information security, human resources, information technology, compliance and other teams to update, maintain and track policies, procedures and training
  • Collaborate with business partners on digitization and data migration projects
  • Update RIM-related training modules as policies and technologies are revised
  • Keep abreast of developments and best practices in the Records Management industry
  • Collaborate with Director, Legal Operations to enhance and modernize information management and governance and improve content sharing and file organization processes

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 5+ years of records information management in financial services or insurance industry
  • 3+ years of supervisory and/or management experience
  • Demonstrated competence in records management, with experience conducting inventories, data mapping, researching and developing retention schedules, understanding media types, creating file classification systems and techniques, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft O365 environment, including managing SharePoint Online sites and document libraries
  • Experience with document conversions and digitization initiatives
  • Ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment
  • Excellent organization, communication and planning skills
  • Experience leading projects and managing resources
  • Ability to analyze problems and propose and implement solutions
  • Proficient with basic office technology applications and content management systems
  • Degree in Records Management, Library Science, Management Information Systems or Business Administration preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance industry requirements and information handling practices preferred
  • Competency with Microsoft applications and online systems preferred
  • Information governance-related certifications (CRM, CIPP, IGP) preferred
