Our Data Sciences team, situated in Cambridge and Seattle, works across research, clinical, and pharmaceutical sciences to advance our gene therapies by leveraging expertise in bioinformatics, software engineering, statistics, disease biology, immunology, and human genetics. We apply advanced analytics to molecular, clinical, manufacturing and public domain data to support bluebird's mission to recode for life. You will join a team of motivated, inquisitive scientists that recognize the value of working hard, but also do not take themselves too seriously.


You will be an integral part of our growing team in Seattle. In this multifaceted role you will collaborate closely with our oncology, gene editing, and severe genetic diseases teams to accelerate development of next generation therapies. This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage bioinformatics, statistics, and data sciences to make an impact on the efficacy and safety of our cell and gene therapies with the ultimate goal of improving patient lives.


About the Role:



  • Apply cutting-edge analytical methods to solve complex, biomedical questions by integrating disparate data types and delivering actionable insights and testable hypotheses
  • Collaborate with wet lab automation scientists to design experiments leveraging high-throughput experimental generation.
  • Collaborate with research scientists to characterize novel gene therapies using multi-omics approaches, e.g. single-cell RNAseq.
  • Visualize the data to explain the findings to cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Be an advocate for driving awareness, acceptance, and adoption of advanced analytics across the organization.
  • Identify and apply new avenues which demonstrate how data-driven approaches and data sciences translates towards development in research, clinical projects, and bioengineering.

About You:



  • Passion for tackling cancer and severe genetic disorders.
  • Demonstrated ability to derive biological insights from complex datasets.
  • PhD in engineering, computational biology/bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, or related quantitative field.
  • OR Master's degree in above fields with 2+ years industry or research experience in applying advanced analytical methods to high-dimensional datasets and communicating results to diverse audiences.
  • Strong expertise with R or Python and experience working in Linux environment. Preferred to have an understanding of common NGS analysis workflows (DNA and/or RNA).
  • Knowledge of core concepts in data analysis and applied statistics – model testing, regression, classification and clustering methods.
  • Strong curiosity about emerging trends in genomics/computational biology and data sciences.
  • Prior experience in the oncology, immunology, immunotherapy, or gene therapy is a bonus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the presentation and visualization of results and documentation.
  • Highly collaborative team player who fosters open communication and facilitates mutual understanding and cooperation between all stakeholders
  • Experience working on complex and dynamic projects, making decisions under uncertainty and dealing with shifting priorities.
