Under the direction of the Manager, Patient Access - registration, the Registration Clerk is responsible for entering all demographic and insurance information required by registering patients via Soarian Financials for the O/P Lab and OP Radiology areas. The Registration clerk is also responsible for collecting payments due at Point of Service and referring patients to ClaimAid and/or financial assistance as needed. This staff will interact with volunteers, patients, family members, guests, physicians and their staff, board members, vendors, etc. This position will be the 'first' contact with our customers as their enter the main entrance of the hospital. Constant monitoring of all activities in this area is a vital role assigned to the registration staff in this location.


  • Completes Registration for outpatients
  • Working in a high stress environment, respond accurately and courteously to all customers
  • Interviews patient, guarantor, and/or medical Power of Attorney if patient is unable to respond to obtain and verify all required information for a complete admission/ registration.
  • Collects photo ID and Insurance Card if available. Scan patient insurance card and photo ID into Encounter record
  • Verifies Insurance utilizing SF HDX link
  • Corrects Errors utilizing SF work lists
  • Enters admitting/attending physician in SF
  • Prints armband and places on patient
  • Prints labels and face sheets
  • Obtains necessary signatures, based on responsibility of patient, of consent for treatment
  • Collects Medicare Secondary Payer info from all Medicare Patients utilizing the MSP Questionnaire
  • Asks Patient if they want to be listed in the Directory
  • Greets Patient upon arrival and/or meeting
  • Utilizes Vocera to communicate with management and/or fellow registrars
  • Kindly but assertively asks for co-insurance and/or deductible on applicable encounters
  • Refers patients to Claim Aid if they need help in applying for Medicaid or other government paying payors.
  • Opens cash drawers, collects patient payment, post payments to correct accounts and prints receipts
  • Balances cash drawer at the close of shift as assigned
  • Explains payment plans and financial assistance application process
  • Calculates appropriate self-pay discounts when applicable
  • Maintain a neat and orderly registration area
