Assist with the functional, as well as cosmetic, repair and maintenance of the assigned vessel. Perform basic repairs and installations; provide maintenance support in all areas related to the onboard logistical operation of the hotel, as well as office operations, in support of the overall needs of the company.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, garbage disposal units, dishwashers and water softeners.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mend burst pipes and open clogged drains.
  • Dismantle machines and equipment, replace defective parts and motors and adjust feed mechanisms.
  • Clean and lubricate machine parts such as shafts, pulleys, gears and bearings.
  • Replace or repair machine belts.
  • Notify management concerning the need for major repairs and/or additions to lighting, heating and ventilating equipment.
  • Replace air conditioner filters.
  • Ensure tools, equipment and working areas are kept clean and in order.
  • Present a professional level of customer service and appearance to all – internal and external.
  • May interact with Guests, Vendors, Fire Marshalls and/or Health Inspectors.
  • Accomplish established daily/weekly maintenance routines.
  • Perform daily inspections of facility and perform immediate repairs as necessary.
  • Complete and submit required administrative forms and reports reliably, clearly and accurately.
  • Report any maintenance or safety deficiencies that cannot be immediately corrected to management.
  • Paint, repair, clean and generally improve facilities and equipment as required.
  • Ensure all aspects of safety during task execution.
  • Maintain supply, tool & parts inventories.
  • Current knowledge & use of approved Hazmat protection required for paints, solvents & cleaning agents.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education:
  • HS Diploma or Equivalent Required
  • Professional Certification(s) or License:
  • USCG License in any Engineering capacity desirable
  • Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain
  • Valid MMC
  • Copy of DD214, if Veteran status
  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be fluent in English
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a pleasant and professional manner
  • Experience:
  • 5-7 years of experience required (directly related to duties and responsibilities of this position)
  • Cruise industry experience preferred
  • Other:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.

Working Conditions:

The majority of work is performed in a Marine environment in both indoor and outdoor conditions with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions, along with a moderate to loud noise level.

The Marine operation is subject to varied wake and motion.

Positions both live and work onboard a vessel, on a rotational basis for consecutive port-to-port voyages during the regular season.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk on nearly a constant basis; ability to work long hours each day
  • Ability to bend, rotate and reach frequently
  • Ability to carry, push/pull and/or lift materials weighing upwards of 50 lbs
  • Ascending/descending stairs or ladders safely
  • Ability to manipulate/handle/grip materials required to perform job
  • Ability to maneuver through/in/around small and/or confined areas within the vessel
  • Must be able to maintain both static and dynamic standing balance to complete various duties associated with job
  • Must be capable of performing emergency duties as listed in the vessel's station bill
  • Crew bed/bunk equipment are rated for 250 lbs maximum weight capacity per bunk.
