Ala Wai Watershed & Community Outreach


This project will develop a holistic watershed management for the Ala Wai Watershed, the most densely populated watershed in Hawai'i, in the context of equitable economic recovery from COVID-19. The position will assist in stakeholder coordination, public and community outreach and research to develop the Ala Wai Watershed Management Plan; set-up a "Community Investment Vehicle" of diverse public, private and community representatives to implement the plan over time; and support local partners, schools and community organizations in increasing access to financial and other resources. This will both help address near-term economic recovery and mitigate future/long-term risks of economic hardship from severe weather events, hurricanes and flooding which are estimated to cause billions of dollars in losses if no action is taken. Member Duties : Conduct outreach with statewide partners of the Ala Wai Watershed Collaboration; organize Collaboration and stakeholder meetings; and support planning a series of events to engage the broader network of community members on the Aloha+ Challenge through this initiative. Support the development of an Ala Wai Watershed Management Plan and "Community Investment Vehicle" of diverse public, private and community representatives to implement the plan over time. Support communications and outreach on the Ala Wai Watershed Collaboration's actions to advance the Aloha+ Challenge, including through newsletters, social media and website, event invitations and outreach, partner communications, and other materials. Identify and develop grant, contract and membership systems to support Ala Wai Watershed partners, schools and community organizations in increasing access to financial and other resources.
