The Alaska Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services is recruiting for a Certified Nursing Assistant I in Anchorage


What you will be doing:


The Department of Corrections, Health & Rehabilitation Services (HARS) is recruiting for Certified Nurse Aide to provide direct patient care. Based out of Anchorage Central Office to provide coverage at different DOC Facilities. This position can involve traveling to our 12 facilities.

Who we are looking for:


We are looking for someone with effective communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task.  The ability to understand and exercise "confidentiality" in the day to day activities of the workplace.


 


Primary duties will be:



  • Patient evaluation: Vital Signs, Screenings, COVID Test
  • Providing great patient care.
  • Answering patient calls and determining how best to help them.
  • Providing physical support for patients or residents with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, - using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.
  • Turning and repositioning bedridden patients.
  • Ensuring patients or residents receive appropriate diet by reviewing their dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences.
  • Obtaining a wide range of information from physicians, caregivers and nurses about patient condition, treatment plans, and suggested activities.
  • Measuring and recording food and liquid intake and urinary and fecal output and reporting changes to medical or nursing staff.
  • Recording vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate as requested by staff.
  • Examining patients to detect issues requiring medical care, including open wounds, bruises or blood in urine.
  • Reminding patients to take medications and nutritional supplements. 
  • Noting observations of patient behavior, including complaints, or physical symptoms to nurses.
  • Stay up to date on CNA training and facility policy and procedure.
  • Within scope of practice any other duties/projects as assigned.

Possible Travel within the state (Trips tend to be up to 4 days in length)



  •            Live within 50 miles of 550 W 7th Avenue, Anchorage AK 99501
  •            This position does involve travel outside the Anchorage area. 
  •           Valid Driver's License and Vehicle Insurance.Eligibility for certification to practice as a Certified Nurse Aide in the State of Alaska.

Special Note: 


Candidates not currently certified by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for certification as a Nurse Aide in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of certification will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.


 


Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.


 


Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Education completed in foreign colleges, universities, or high schools may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution or high school.  It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS


Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS).  A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS.  DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice.  Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
