Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience, in School of Medicine, Creighton University is seeking a full-time, highly motivated and skilled organic/medicinal chemist to join our team as Research Associate. This is NIH funded project on synthesis and biological evaluation of small chemical molecules with antibacterial activity. Our research is focused on developing novel small molecule therapeutic agents targeting antibiotic resistant bacterial strains for the treatment of bacterial infections.


Responsibilities:



  • Perform work as directed by the Principal Investigator to conduct ongoing research experiments.
  • Become an integral member of a Project Team that develops detailed SAR to advance best-in-class small molecules from hit identification to development candidate selection
  • Design and develop new multi-step syntheses to challenging target molecules
  • Collaborate and communicate research results effectively with the team
  • Maintain accurate Lab book records of experiments and analytical data
  • Maintain a safe working environment

This position is 100% grant funded.


This position will work normal business hours: 8am-4:30pm; depending upon research needs position may require evening, weekend, and holiday work.


Qualifications:


M.S./M. Pharm in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry or equivalent;


5+ year's research lab experience; and (1+ years) in a synthetic organic laboratory;


Previous work experience as a medicinal chemist is a plus, but not necessary;


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:


Candidate who just submitted Ph.D. thesis will be given priority for this post;


Previous work experience as a medicinal chemist is a plus, but not necessary;


Skilled performing analysis and purification of small molecules using a variety of techniques (TLC, FCC, HPLC, LC/MS, NMR, etc.);


Strong ability to interpret data and to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues;


Strong work ethic, excellent written and communication skills;


Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;


Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Outlook;


Team focused, collaborative, self-motivated, goal-oriented, and passionate;


Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending upon research needs
