The Sales Manager Trainee is responsible for personal sales production while mentoring, training and developing a team of Family Service Counselors. With direct support from a seasoned Sales Manager, you play an essential role in generating pre-need revenue and securing future market share by managing and motivating other sales professionals to deliver sales results, monitoring activity, providing training, and assisting in the recruiting/selection required for business growth and consistent delivery of sales.



  • Qualify sales leads by asking probing questions and providing information; schedule sales appointments.
  • Applying sales skills, present pre-need services and products to consumers and influence the importance of pre-planning. Complete electronic sales contracts and close the sales.
  • Motivate and guide sales representatives to achieve monthly revenue quota. Run and review monthly sales reports with sales representatives. Discuss wins and missed opportunities. Develop a plan to increase sales contacts and reduce missed opportunities.
  • Shadow sales associates during sales presentations. Discuss observations. Provide actionable constructive feedback and guidance on processes, procedures, and regulations as well as sales techniques.
  • Implement sales plans, programs, and campaigns into operational actions.
  • Review sales achievement and quota projections with Sales Manager. Discuss concerns with Sales Manager and collaborate on options and recommendations. Implement solutions.
  • Present Pre-Need educational and sales information at seminars and community events.

People Development



  • Develop a strong, trusting, and reliable team. Understand team members career aspirations and provide assignments to develop skills and/or close gaps. Apply a proactive and collaborative management style in order to increase employee engagement. Monitor training and licensing requirements ensuring staff is re-trained/licensed prior to expiration.
  • Comprehend and respond to sales team questions regarding commission plans, base pay, and overtime 7i provisions.
  • In conjunction with Sales and Field Management, screen and interview candidates (internal and external) providing hiring input.

Self-Development



  • Seek feedback and advice from Sales and Field Management on managing, motivating, communicating, and influencing staff in order to develop management skills.
  • Shadow members of management and attend meetings to observe and glean skills. Share and discuss observations with shadowed manager gaining behavioral insight.
  • Collaborate with Sales Manager on self-development and people development for continual skill building and advice.

Requirements & Qualifications



  • Minimum of 2-3 years of work experience as a Sales professional or Sales Manager.
  • Basic computer and technology skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent understanding of the selling process.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Creative and detail-oriented.
  • Bachelor's degree (Preferred but not required).
