Function/Duties of Position

This part-time Medical Social Worker is a member of a multi-disciplinary team that provides care to the pediatric kidney transplant patient population with potential coverage for adult kidney, pancreas, heart, and liver transplant populations. This position has the primary responsibility for assessing, counseling, information/referral dissemination, crisis intervention, patient advocacy and associated services to patients, families, and involved parties/agencies. The efforts are directed at assisting the patient/family in all phases of transplantation, including adjustment to illness, injury or disability, hospitalization or other treatment, and readjustment to the community upon facility discharge. The department has corresponding teaching and research functions related to health and healthcare delivery practices. The Medical Social Worker provides direct intervention on an as-needed basis with transplant patients and/or families. The Medical Social Worker is expected to meet national regulation and department policy requirements. The Medical Social Worker is expected to practice in accordance with performance standards, core values and with a commitment to service excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters of Social Work
  • CSWA or LCSW
  • Demonstrated knowledge of assessment development and implementation, short-term counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, and other social work competencies and interventions
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workflow, advanced time management skills, and proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years demonstrated hospital experience
  • Two (2) years demonstrated pediatric and/or transplant population experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial management of transplant patient care
  • Experience with national transplant regulation

Additional Details

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work general business office hours, hours: Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM
  • Occasional need to come in early or stay late to accommodate patient or physician needs
  • Occasional holiday and weekend work as required for regulatory purposes
  • Option to work remotely when patient and department needs allow.

Physical Demands and Equipment Usage:

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of the day performing repetitive computer related tasks and phone work
  • Ability to traverse the distances between buildings on campus as required
  • Ability to complete assignments with numerous disturbances
  • Ability to work in a space shared by multiple staff
