We have been retained by our rapidly growing real estate development firm to lead the search efforts for a Director of Construction. The ideal candidate will be entrepreneurial in nature – interested in the inter-workings of the business, have strong critical thinking and attention to detail. In addition to being part of an innovative, growing company; the position itself has growth potential. Candidates must have a proven track record of success as a leader in the construction industry.

Summary

The Director of Construction will provide the necessary leadership for the daily operations and activities of the construction management and general contractor teams.

Responsibilities

• Hire and direct internal construction management team as the company scales up operations.
• Develop a project estimate process for budgeting and modeling of potential development projects.
• Oversee the procurement of construction services and materials to ensure diversity, quality, and savings from economies of scale in purchasing.
• Manage internal and external construction management resources to ensure projects are being completed on time and under budget.
• Visit job sites regularly to make sure that the sites are clean and safe and that the work is progressing satisfactorily.
• Participate in weekly OAC meetings to manage project progress and make sure information is being communicated regularly.
• Develop and maintain strong company relationships with key stakeholders through networking, industry events, and community involvement.
• Other duties as required to meet the needs of a growing business.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business or construction management from accredited institution.
• 7+ years of experience in construction management.
• Professional interaction with team members, stakeholders, government officials, and staff.
• Able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to manage projects and people at a high level.
• Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to problem solve with creative “outside the box” solutions.
