We seek a Business Development Manager(BD Manager) having a background in the Federal Civilian market to assist with penetrating and expanding our market. The successful applicant will be expected to develop new business, expand and manage a qualified pipeline, represent Splunk capabilities with customers and industry partners, and work with our extended partner team to support strategic programs. Applicants must have a comprehensive understanding of current trends and emerging technologies in the Federal Civilian IT market. This is a highly visible position requiring a proven record of success in growing new business and expanding current engagements.

As a Business Development manager, you will define and execute the overall business development strategy and work with a cross functional team to drive the development and marketing of Splunk software solutions in the Federal Civilian market. Understanding of Federal programs including planning, budget and execution processes, and acquisition strategies is required.

Responsibilities include:
  • Identify, qualify and lead new Business Development opportunities in assigned territory
  • Formulate and execute business development strategies in assigned territory
  • Actively engage in the customer and partner ecosystem and represent Splunk in the business community at industry and client events
  • Educate existing and potential government customers, industry partners, and internal team members on the Splunk value proposition
  • Understand and apply market trends, mission priorities, and customer goals to envision, shape, and assist in closing opportunities
  • Develop and maintain highly effective relationships with the Government executives, Program Managers, contract management offices and industry partners that drive growth
  • Assist Account teams with development of Account specific growth plans
  • Support brand development and market outreach activities
  • Lead communication among and participation with multiple extended teams to drive business
  • The BD Manager must possess strong leadership and organizational skills to cultivate, build and maintain customer relationships, internally and externally, critical to technology development.

Requirements: "I have these!"

  • 7+ years in the Federal Civilian IT or cyber security mission (CIO or CISO preferred) OR 10+ years direct selling/business development experience selling IT infrastructure solutions and Services to the Federal Civilian market.
  • Very comfortable in the “C” suite with a track record of managing large IT programs through the acquisition process.
  • Strong executive presence and polish

  • Ability to take initiative
  • Extraordinary, social, written and presentation skills
  • Thrives in a dynamic, fast-growing, rapidly changing environment
  • Able to work independently and remotely from other members of your team and corporate
  • Relevant software industry experience in IT systems, enterprise or infrastructure management
  • Must live within the Washington DC Metro area
Education and experience requirements:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent job experience
  • Must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis

OTE Pay Ranges

For sales roles the ranges are expressed as On Target Earning or OTE (OTE = base + incentives in the form of sales incentive plans).

SF Bay Area, Seattle Metro, and New York City Metro Area

On Target Earnings: $232,000.00 - 319,000.00 per year

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Washington (excludes Seattle Metro), New York (excludes NYC Metro Area), and all other states.

On Target Earnings: $232,000.00 - 319,000.00 per year

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the On Target Earnings (OTE) range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the OTE pay will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to OTE, this role may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
