The USC Verdugo Hills Hospital is a 158-bed acute care hospital nestled in the Foothill communities of La Canada and Glendale, CA. The USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation is a 501.c.3 foundation that raises and manages funds to support patient care needs, community health initiatives, clinical staff training, investments in leading edge technology and equipment, facility improvements, and capital projects for USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation leaders, and the Keck Medicine of USC Advancement team seek to recruit a talented, seasoned, and dynamic advancement professional for the position of Executive Director/Foundation President. The Executive Director/Foundation President will lead all aspects of fundraising in support of USC Verdugo Hills Hospital. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Keck Advancement, this position works closely with the Chief Executive Officer of USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, other C-Suite leaders, physicians, and clinical staff leaders, as well as the Foundation Board of Directors and will serve to build on past success to augment philanthropic revenue for USC Verdugo Hills Hospital while managing a team of advancement professionals. The Executive Director pursues philanthropic goals consistent with the vision for the broader USC/Keck health system and may also contribute to fundraising activity in support of central health system priorities. Specifically, the Executive Director/Foundation President will:

  • Serve as lead fundraiser focusing on principal and major gifts, closing endowed, current use, and planned gifts while working with USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation staff that support donor pipeline building and an array of donor and prospect development programs.

  • Provide strategic oversight for all aspects of fundraising including principal and major gift cultivation, annual giving, corporate and foundation giving, and planned giving. Work with colleagues across Keck Advancement and USC Advancement to support fundraising across these areas including the Office of Medical Annual Giving, Corporate & Foundation Relations, and the Office of Gift Planning.

  • Build on past success to continue to grow Foundation assets (currently over $12M) and annual fundraising targets.

  • Serve as a key advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and other C-Suite leaders to strategically plan and establish philanthropic priorities to set the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation and hospital on a path of sustained philanthropic growth in service of the hospital’s mission, vision, and goals for growth and expansion.

  • Represent USC Verdugo Hills Hospital at various donor cultivation, fundraising, and community events, working in tandem with the Chief Executive Officer, other C-Suite leaders, physician medical staff leadership, clinical staff leaders, and foundation board members.

  • Oversee the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation Board of Directors ensuring this robust board of community leaders and philanthropists continues to thrive.

  • Manage the USC Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation’s overall budget, and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Sr. Accountant, and Foundation Treasurer to oversee asset, investment strategies, gift fund balances and allocations, and endowment growth.

  • Ensure USC Advancement protocols are followed in all aspects of the donor process, including gift processing and acknowledgment, prospecting, soliciting, and stewarding.

  • In conjunction with the Keck Advancement donor relations and communications team, and Foundation staff create impact reports and compelling cases for support for donors, appropriate donor naming recognition when applicable, and help craft acknowledgement letters.

  • Partner with physicians and clinical staff to identify grateful patients leveraging the Honor Your Healthcare Hero program and other strategic grateful patient efforts.

  • As part of engagement efforts, initiate appropriate contact and develop meaningful and effective development events for donors and prospective donors to highlight unique opportunities for support, as well as steward gifts.

  • Track progress and results in Salesforce, the USC Advancement database, following USC’s prospect management guidelines. Reach annual metric targets as a lead fundraiser.

  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a high-profile leadership role that requires an experienced professional who has excellent verbal and written communication skills, is an entrepreneurial thinker and a problem solver, and is a great public speaker. He/she/they must possess strong relationship management skills and have experience working with top executives, physicians, and community leaders. Applicants should be accustomed to and comfortable with receiving and applying feedback and advice to improve performance. Additionally, applicants should be able to demonstrate a history of success in their prior field/position, with special focus on success in designing, implementing, and administering innovative programs that require creative solutions and energized problem-solving approaches within the fundraising arena.

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience

Minimum Experience: A minimum of 7 years of major campaign, fundraising, and/or senior volunteer group management experience.

Minimum Field of Expertise: 10 years of fundraising experience in higher education with preference given to candidates who possess development experience in academic medicine.

The annual base salary range for this position is $195,000.00 - $228,000.00.
