AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Graduate Civil/Geotechnical Engineer to support geotechnical, civil infrastructure, and mine tailings projects as part of the Mining group in Denver, Colorado or Murray, Utah.  The position will involve working on mine tailings dam and water dam projects to conduct geotechnical investigations and analyses.  

This position is expected to begin in January or May 2024.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning, implementing, and overseeing geotechnical exploration programs.
  • Assisting with laboratory testing assignments.
  • Performing geotechnical evaluations including material characterization, liquefaction, seepage, slope stability, and settlement analyses.
  • Preparing calculation packages.
  • Assisting with the development of geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations of evaluation results to the internal team.
  • Review geotechnical instrumentation and assist with the preparation of instrumentation monitoring reports.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Geology.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices when public transportation is not available.  The selected candidate will undergo a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EIT Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months. 
  • Masters Degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical Emphasis.
  • Basic Knowledge of industry software such as GeoStudio, Utexas, Grapher, AutoCAD, and Civil3D.
  • Field, construction, and/or dams experience.
  • Familiarity with design reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment.
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, and flexibility.
  • Resourceful, highly organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Effective time-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.


  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • We are interested in every qualified candidate eligible to work in the United States. Permanent residency sponsorship is available for current H1-B visa holders in the United States.
  • Travel of 15% is required for this position.
