Summary: The CAD Engineer 2 role is an essential position within the CAD Engineering team. Typical minimum Civil CAD experience is 4+ years & 2 years in telecom. The role supports the department in a variety of ways: Managing CAD contractors, QA/QC internal and drawings, Distribution drawings, completing advanced level redline, Backbone drawings, As-Builts, pulling plat/Right-of-way information, completing FME drawings, conducting changes orders. The person should have a basic understanding of / knowledge of various permitting engineering requirements, especially within the Metro Houston Area.

The main objective of a CAD Engineer 2 is to complete engineering drawings, from beginning to end, in a timely manner per the standards of Tachus and the permitting jurisdiction. After the training period, this person will be responsible for a geographical area for design, changes, as-builts, etc. This person will report to the Engineering Supervisor / Manager.

  • Fundamentally Sound
    • Understands Department SOP

    • Communicates clearly and concisely with key project stakeholders.
    • Follows direction well.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Works well independently and on team efforts.
    • Works well with other departments (PMO / Network Planning / OSP / ETC)
    • Receptive and adjusts to constructive criticism.
  • Technically Sound
    • Strong in Civil CAD design
    • Strong with adjacent software / tools: KMZ, OSPI, QGIS, Salesforce, ETC
    • Strong with Permitting & Tachus standards.
  • Conduct CAD Engineering
    • Understands the templates for the different project types.
    • Complete CAD drawings for permitting, in a timely manner.
    • Understands full scope of work and alleviates any gaps in scope.
    • Updates drawing, addressing permitting comments in a timely manner.
    • Leads contractors in design efforts.
  • Project Communication
    • Active participant in project meetings.
    • Coordinates with Tachus Internal stakeholders.
    • Documents all project artifacts appropriately.
    • Communication project progression daily.
Mastery (Reviewed Quarterly/Semi-Annually)

  • Level 1
    • Struggles with the fundamentals, frequent quality, and communication issues.
    • Struggles with CAD functions and KMZ, no understanding of outside systems.
    • Hard time completing projects, in a timely manner, while having little to no errors.
    • Frequent missteps in execution.
    • Inconsistent in reporting progression.
    • Requires a considerable amount of guidance and/or training from leadership.
  • Level 2
    • Solid with fundamentals; small errors, but no major issues.
    • Good understanding of CAD and KMZ, and Tachus systems.
    • Creates good CAD drawings, in respect to the permitting requirements.
    • Reporting progression is consistent.
    • Requires a reasonable amount of guidance and/or training from leadership.
  • Level 3
    • Outstanding with fundamentals with no errors
    • Technically great with mastery over all CAD tools and work knowledge of other systems; able to train others on all department tools.
    • Great completing projects in a timely manner; no changes or issues when reviewed by leadership or permitting agencies. Highlights and address potential risks.
    • Flawless execution of projects.
    • Progress reporting is always timely, consistent, and accurate.
    • Requires a low amount of guidance and/or training from leadership.
