AECOM is actively seeking a talented and highly motivated Sustainability Consultant to join the High-Performance Buildings and Communities Team. This multi-disciplined team provides High Performance design leadership and consulting on sustainable buildings and communities with projects ranging from the design of net zero and LEED Platinum buildings to the sustainable planning of major global eco-cities and Transportation corridors.

Location: Orange or San Francisco, CA or Seattle, WA

Some key projects undertaken by this team includes:

  • Intuit Dome – LEED Platinum
  • San Franciso International Airport – Sustainability services, Net Zero Carbon Plan, Infrastructure Modernization Plan
  • Sepulveda Transit Corridor – Sustainability Management Plan
  • Argonne National Labs – Federal Sustainability compliance
  • Salt Lake City Water Reclamation Facility – Envision Assessment
  • Department of Defense Buildings (Air Force, Navy, Air National Guard, etc.) – Sustainability Compliance

The candidate will have a technical background such as Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture or similar and a minimum of 2 years professional experience in the green building/design sector.  The candidate will need to be a team player who can work with others in a multi-disciplinary team, to deliver a range of Sustainability Services.

To support the development of our technical staff, we offer mentorship, technical training, attendance to conferences, access to a range of internal and external training resources and flexible hybrid work approach.  

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertake or support building certifications such as LEED, WELL, Envision and GBI and GBCI Guiding Principles assessments.
  • Support design, engineering, and construction teams on green building projects and initiatives.
  • Research and develop sustainability strategies and guidance for buildings, sites and campuses.
  • Providing construction support via document reviews, site visits, team check-ins and ad-hoc advice.
  • Staying informed about relevant sustainability legislation such as CALGreen and ensure compliance on projects.
  • Collecting and analyzing data related to sustainability efforts and produce reports for stakeholders/clients.
  • Preparing and presenting results and professional recommendations, in report or presentation format, to clients and teams.


Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Building Sciences, Architecture, or a related field plus two (2) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters' degree preferred in engineering, planning, or sustainability-related field
  • Additional certifications/licenses e.g. LEED AP, WELL AP, ENV SP are a plus.
  • Experience or knowledge of waste management and circular economy, along with working knowledge of the primary aspects of sustainable design.
  • Experience with Infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, and in particular, Excel for data analytics and power point.
  • Ability to balance various project and company responsibilities and deadlines, while maintaining professionalism and quality
  • Adaptable and flexible, showing a willingness and ability to take on new projects or areas with or without supervision, as required
  • Team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proficiently communicate both internally and externally to build collaborative relationships
