As a Chemical Engineer II - Instrumentation and Control Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of cutting-edge projects, ensuring they meet budgeted hours, planned schedules, and top-notch quality standards. You'll stay ahead with the latest technology developments in instrumentation and control systems, work closely with customers to produce comprehensive instrument definitions, and innovate by modifying and reviewing P&IDs, creating detailed designs, and preparing precise specifications and schematics. Your role includes evaluating supplier bids, ensuring design conformance during fabrication and construction, analyzing technical issues, recommending solutions, and programming and troubleshooting PLCs. Key Responsibilities

  • Meeting budgeted hours, planned schedule, and agreed-upon level of quality on assigned project work.
  • Communicating with the project manager on required changes to budget, schedule, or quality level on assigned project work.
  • Communicating with the project manager on progress on assigned project work.
  • Keeping up-to-date with current technology developments in the instrument-and-systems control area.
  • Interfacing with customer to determine project instrumentation and control system requirements.
  • Producing a complete definition of instrument requirements incorporating applicable code and customer requirements.
  • Modify and review P&IDs
  • Preparing instrument/controls detail design including;
  • Instrument specifications and requisitions,
  • Control system schematics,
  • Loop diagrams,
  • Logic diagrams and
  • Control system narratives.
  • Evaluating the instrument portion of supplier bids and participating in the supplier selection process.
  • Reviewing the control system design for conformance with customer requirements and applicable codes, and identifying inconsistencies.
  • Coordinating with the fabricator throughout the fabrication phase of the project on instrument-and-control system issues.
  • Inspecting control system equipment and fabrication for conformance with project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Inspecting control system site construction for conformance with project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Analyzing and recommending solutions to technical problems in the control system functionality.
  • Communicating key decisions made on projects to others.
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers.


You Must Have

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics.
  • 3+ years of experience in a project-based engineering environment or plant operations


We Value

  • Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ Years of relevant experience in process/project, operations, or plant instrumentation and controls.
  • Experience with process instrumentation design and application.
  • Oil / refinery or petrochemical industry experience is preferred, but will consider power / energy, food, or other chemical processing experience
  • An understanding of engineering principles and mathematics.
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability
  • The ability to work as part of a team
