Chief Treatment Plant Operator

Purpose Of Position

Supervise a 3-shift, 7-day per week operation at a water treatment plant. Monitor and maintain treatment processes to ensure water quality; prepare various monthly operation reports; ensure that all regulatory requirements are met; supervise an efficient equipment and facility maintenance program; perform proper record keeping tasks; and perform duties as required.

Essential Functions

• Supervise plant personnel.
• Monitor plant operations.
• Evaluate and determine course of action from water analysis and quality.
• Direct and perform maintenance tasks.
• Respond to water complaints.
• Prepare monthly and weekly reports.
• Monitor chemical use and order chemicals as needed.
• Evaluate performance of employees.
• Perform training in safety and provide safety meetings monthly or as needed.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and malfunctions.
• Keep and maintain records and files with established preventative maintenance program.
• Must have knowledge of proper water treatment, as required by State and Federal law and, as described in AWWA Specifications.
• Must possess skill in maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Must know principles of chemistry.
• Must know supervisory principles and practices.
• Most possess ability to perform basic and advanced math problems as they relate to water treatment.
• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Must be able to communicate effectively
• Must know principles of safety involving use of power tools, electrical equipment, and hazardous materials.
• Must be able to operate a personal computer.
• Must be able to stand 2 hours daily; walk several hours daily; sit several hours daily; lift, carry, push and pull 50 lbs.; climb, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, run, twist, turn and reach.
• Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Must have (5) years of water treatment experience and (2) years of supervisory experience. Must Possess a valid TCEQ Class B Surface Water License or be able to obtain within (12) months of employment. A bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Engineering, Science, Management, or a related field is desired but not required. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Must possess a valid Class C Texas Driver's License with a clear driving record.
