Duties

Supports the Regenerative Medicine Program through developing and conducting cell characterization assays and establishing cell banks. Runs protocols including mammalian cell culture, cell enumeration methods, bioactivity assays, flow cytometry, DNA extraction, digital polymerase chain reaction, microscopy, and advanced analytical instrumentation with limited supervision. Interacts and communicates effectively with multidisciplinary team members including biologists, engineers, statisticians, and computer scientists to facilitate protocol development. Establishes and documents standard operating procedures. Maintains databases of measurement results. Maintains laboratory operational readiness, including equipment, instrumentation, and supplies. Requires the consideration of precedents and the use of judgment to troubleshoot assays and fix common problems with equipment and analytical instrumentation. Work affects accuracy and timeliness of method and reference material development.

Qualifications

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION, APPLICANTS MUST POSSESS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: Specialized experience: One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 level (ZT-II at NIST).Specialized experience is defined as experience conducting mammalian cell culture with aseptic technique; Experience performing cell analysis methods and biological assays. OR Education: Two full years of graduate education or a master's degree in a field of study directly related to the work of the position. OR Combination of specialized experience and graduate education: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
