The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) providesengineering and technical services in the aeronautics, space power and propulsion test facilities. We are currently looking for an experienced Aircraft Mechanic II to provide support on critical research related to NASA Glenn's aircraft.

This position performs inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, post-flight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections. Troubleshoots and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned aircraft utilizing various gauges, meters, measuring devices and other related test equipment. Install research hardware and components, and complete airworthiness documentation. Complies with in-house aircraft maintenance training and safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. May be required to perform user and organizational level maintenance on assigned aircraft and support equipment, including inspection, repair, modification, and corrosion prevention. Provides data for aircraft maintenance historical records, complete maintenance data collection, and other forms as required. May be required to launch and recover transient aircraft.

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience as a licensed A&P mechanic with an active FAA-IA certification and documented quality assurance experience.
  • Completion of an Associate's degree program or equivalent aviation certification program for aircraft aviation maintenenace i.e civilian or military training.
  • Extensive Aircraft, Power plant, and Propeller systems knowledge required.
  • Knowledge of Aircraft Trouble-shooting techniques. Knowledge of Military and Civilian Aviation Technical Directives, Maintenance, and Service Publications.
  • Knowledge of Basic Aircraft Electrical and Avionics Systems Maintenance.
  • Experience in maintenance, modification, and repair of Turboprop and Jet Aircraft. Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
  • Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gear boxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
  • Ability to do diversified aircraft systems work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions. Ability to diagnose trouble-shoot, and determine remedy where overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required. Ability to inspect aircraft, determine mechanical deficiencies, and analyze results. Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics and specifications for complex mechanical problems. Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation and adjustment of major inter-related and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies. Basic Computer Skills to include internet research, email, and document control. Ability to meet FAA Class III or NASA Aviation medical standards to serve as an inflight maintenance technician and crew chief. Ability to travel in support of aircraft project mission requirements up to 25% of scheduled work time as assigned. Ability to work overtime to support aircraft project mission requirements as assigned.
  • Attention to detail and disciplined to complete documentation required by regulation. Familiar with FAR’s enough to know where to find regulation for direction maintenance and basic operation of aircraft. Able to determine applicability of AD notes.

This position will be located at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility near Las Cruces, New Mexico.

This position compiles and records production data for industrial establishments to compare records and reports on volume of production, consumption of material, quality control, and other aspects of production. May perform any combination of the following duties compile and record production data from customer orders, work tickets, product specifications, and individual worker production sheets following prescribed recording procedures and using different word processing techniques.

Sorts and distributes work tickets or material and calculates such factors as types and quantities of items produced, materials used, amount of scrap, frequency of defects, and worker and department production rates, using a computer, calculator, and/or spreadsheets. Additional tasks include writing production reports based on data compiled, tabulated and computed, following prescribed formats, maintaining files of documents used and prepared, compiling detailed production sheets or work tickets for use by production workers as guides in assembly or manufacture of products.

Prepares written work schedules based on established guidelines and priorities, compiles material inventory records and prepares requisitions for procurement of materials and supplies. Charts production using chart, graph, or pegboard based on statistics compiled for reference by production and management personnel.

  • Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with at least 1 year of related work experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
