Under general direction, Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program research, planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.

This position will lead the Department's Water Development and Industrial Development Programs. Position provides guidance and direction to Regional Division Supervisors, Water Development and Mine Biologist Staff statewide to ensure that agency objectives are met. The Water Development Program is responsible for locating, clearing, installing, and maintaining artificial water developments and natural spring protection projects aimed at bolstering habitat quality and wildlife populations. Incumbent will lead the program and support project management needs such as reviewing, prioritizing, and scheduling projects, ensuring NEPA compliance, material purchasing oversight, budget and grant management, coordination with NGO's, reporting, and database management. The Industrial Development Program requires incumbent to manage Industrial Artificial Pond Permits (IAPP), Industrial Development Fund, and oversee technical review of mining projects. The goal of the IAPP Program is to prevent and minimize wildlife mortality on industrial ponds through a regulatory permitting requirement. Incumbent will lead and provide direction for technical review of mining projects. This involves coordinating and ensuring consistency of Department reviews, primarily through the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and land use planning decisions.

Proficiency in geo-spatial information, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and relational databases is preferred. Additional responsibilities include reporting program achievements through legislative reports, Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioner meetings, federal grants, and other platforms. As a program lead, you'll act as a liaison with state and federal land management agencies, as well as various conservation and industry partners to protect and enhance Nevada's wildlife resources and habitats. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Qualifications

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations related to wildlife management; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
