We have an immediate need for a part-time, non-exempt Beach Sister Peer Leader Advisor to join our team. In collaboration with Northeastern University's Marine Science Center, we have paired resources to pave the way for girls who are living in an environmental justice community to learn about studies and careers in marine science while developing scientific inquiry and citizenship skills. As a member of the Teen and Middle School Programs department, the Beach Sister Peer Leader Advisor provides guidance and strategic direction to Peer Leaders on the design, planning, and delivery of educational workshops and programming on marine and environmental science.

The rate for this position is $20.00 per hour for up to 20.0 hours per week. As a part-time role, the Beach Sister Peer Leader Advisor will be eligible for some of the paid time off benefits.

POSITION OVERVIEW (What We’re Looking For)

Reporting to the Director of Teen and Middle School Programs, the Beach Sister Peer Leader Advisor role is based at the Lynn office. This role will participate in partner-led, strategic and evaluation planning efforts during the school year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES (What You'll Be Achieving)

At a minimum, the Beach Sister Peer Leader Advisor will be responsible for successfully carrying out the following essential functions and duties:

  • Coordinate and implement the Beach Sisters program, including mentoring six teenaged Peer Leaders in the planning and delivery of after-school programs focused on marine science and environmental service-learning projects in the community.
  • Oversee delivery of instruction by Peer Leaders to other youth during the school year.
  • Work with the Marine Science Center to develop curricula & projects and administer program evaluation.
  • Coordinate the delivery of programming at Girls Inc. as well as in other community agencies.
  • Coordinate and chaperone field trips.
  • Assist with the daily operation of middle and high school programs.
  • Complete and maintain recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Provide current and relevant information to Girls Inc. regarding activities and news.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions.
  • Carry out additional duties as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (What You’ll Bring Along)

Education: Bachelor's degree or demonstrated coursework of related experience, preferably in biology, environmental science, science education, environmental education, or a related field.

Experience: Prior experience in developing and delivering curricula. Experience working with youth, preferably with youth in a multicultural, urban setting.

Qualifications: To be optimally successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Experience in program development, program planning, group facilitation, partnership building within the community, etc.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain progress on short- and long-term goals.
  • Highly developed skills in planning, organizing, and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to lead groups and foster cooperation.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to maintain an inclusive work environment, respectful and supportive of all communities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prepare and complete program reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively as a team player across the organization.
  • Ability to work in a youth/adult collaborative environment, with a deep belief in the power and potential of young people to create social change.
  • Capacity to work independently, take initiative, and execute tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is a plus.
