NATURE OF THE WORK

Brief Description
The purpose of this position is to provide financial expertise and management to the accounting operations for the Brazos River Authority (BRA). This is accomplished by producing accurate and timely financial reports including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and the annual report for the Retirement Plan for Employees of the Brazos River Authority; developing, implementing, and enforcing BRA's internal controls for financial reporting to maximize the protection of the BRA's assets, policies, procedures, and workflows; and overseeing the accounting functional areas including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and fixed assets. Other duties include facilitating the smooth operation of the accounting department; managing the maintenance of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and report set up within the accounting system; coordinating all financial audit processes and working closely with the independent audit firm that performs the BRA's annual audits; staying abreast of all past and current standards as they relate to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements for state and local governments; reviewing and updating as needed all Finance and Administration Department's procedures; ensuring employees are trained and comply with all Finance and Administration's approved procedures; overseeing the smooth operation of the finance department in the absence of the Chief Financial Officer; and any other duties assigned. This position works closely with BRA employees, division managers, department personnel, external and internal auditors, consultants, and the general public.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree (in related field) - Completed course requirements to earn a Bachelor's degree in the field related to the position and is expected to utilize this level of education during the work day to the benefit of the organization.
KEY COMPETENCIES
Min: $128,853.42 to Max : $167,509.44 annual salary. This is an exempt position.

The BRA was created by the Texas Legislature in 1929 and exists to develop, manage, and protect the water resources of the Brazos River Basin. Today, BRA's staff develops and distributes water supplies, provides water and wastewater treatment, monitors water quality, and pursues water conservation through public education programs. Job Requirements
- A minimum of seven years' progressive accounting and management experience
- Certified Public Accountant CPA
- Excellent leadership attributes and personal integrity
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Experience in Governmental Accounting and/or GovernmentalAuditing
