Job Purpose

This position provides clinical treatment for youth with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders within SCDJJ facilities. This position develops, implements, and monitors unit programs for compliance with the agency's policies, procedures, and standards. This position will provide screening, assessments, individual and group co-occurring (mental health and substance abuse) counseling, and case management services, to include re-entry and transition planning. This position will serve as a member of the Disciplinary Team; will use the Matrix Co-occurring disorder treatment model.

Job Responsibilities

Provides delivery of substance abuse and/or COD evidenced-based treatment interventions to include individual and group sessions.

Provides screening, assessment, case management, transition, and re-entry planning for youth in secure facilities.

Educates staff and youth on principles of COD treatment.

Prioritizes treatment targets, develops treatment plans and implements interventions based on COD program model and approved cognitive/behavioral treatment principles.

Provides documentation to include case notes and report writing.

Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings, routinely consulting with facility mental health providers.

Participates in work groups and projects related to administrative wide initiatives.

Networks and communicates with a variety of groups, organizations, and agencies, including institution management team and community treatment providers.

Performs all other duties and tasks and required related to the mission of the agency.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs.

Additional Requirements

Knowledge of assessment and treatment applications, best-practice principles and strategies associated with trauma-informed and culturally responsive treatment, cognitive-behavioral theory, social learning theory, and mindfulness-based practices.

Under limited supervision of the Director of Integrated Services, responsible for administering and coordinating all aspects of the substance abuse program for all DJJ secure facilities in the state.

Must be able to work in a secure facility with the confidence and endurance required to work in a chaotic environment.

Work hours may vary depending on the needs of the youth to include evenings and weekends.

This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training will be provided.

Work is in a residential facility that houses and provides services to youth with the most complex needs within the juvenile justice system.

The person in this position may be exposed to young people at risk for violent or self-harmful behavior.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

A master's degree in social sciences with 2 years of experience in substance use and behavioral health/mental health treatment with youth. Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) preferred.
