Overview:

SageSure , a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking an experienced data scientist that can drive the development and implementation of data science solutions. In this role, you will collaborate closely with data scientists, underwriters, actuaries, and IT to tackle initiatives that enhance pricing sophistication and drive profitable growth in residential property.

What you’d be doing:

  • Build GLM Loss cost models using R 
  • Build complex non-pricing models 
  • Explore and utilize advanced modeling techniques (e.g., machine learning techniques and Elastic Nets) to build sophisticated models 
  • Collaborate with Actuarial, Product Development and Underwriting 
  • Act as a mentor and help develop junior team members
  • Develop model-driven solutions to complex business problems 


We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Minimum of 5 years industry experience, or a PhD in a quantitative studies discipline with 2 + years of relevant experience.  
  • Experience with predictive modeling and statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, Emblem, Python/R)  
  • Advanced knowledge of data sources, tools, and the business (lines, systems, pricing plans) 
  • Strong Excel, Microsoft office, SAS and database skills.  Ability to build complex models 
  • Effective interpersonal and written / verbal communication skills; strong team player and ability to work across organizational boundaries 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignment
