What are we looking for in our Project Engineer?

Position Overview: Russell Tobin is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer responsible for managing all technical aspects of assigned projects from initiation to final customer checkout, shipment, and startup support. This role is working with a global leader in specialty systems in the Eden Prairie area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review & Recommend: Assess hardware and software requirements against specifications before and after an order is received. Recommend actions to the Project Manager if discrepancies arise.
  • Project Guidance: Provide leadership to the project team to meet customer expectations, while balancing project cost, schedule, and technical goals.
  • Client Engagement: Represent the Systems Engineering department during customer kickoff and design review meetings.
  • Task Delegation: Plan tasks in line with project schedules, delegating responsibilities to support staff and overseeing their execution.
  • Technical Problem-Solving: Resolve technical issues with the customer promptly and identify when changes necessitate contract adjustments or equipment modifications.
  • Documentation Management: Develop and maintain Fire & Gas System documentation (e.g., shop drawings, layout diagrams, wiring diagrams) required for each project.
  • Material Planning: Create and manage detailed bills of materials for procurement, manufacturing, and system assembly documentation.
  • Software Coordination: Provide documentation to software engineering teams to initiate programming as per schedule.
  • System Checkout: Oversee the final internal checkout of systems, ensuring performance accuracy and test report certification. Notify the Project Manager upon completion.
  • Client Testing: Host and conduct client acceptance testing at the factory as required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • AutoCAD Standards: Help develop and maintain an AutoCAD standards library for use within the Project Engineering department.
  • Proposal Support: Assist in specifying equipment needs to meet project specifications.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or at least five years of experience in fire alarm system, HVAC, or Automation design.
  • Experience in control systems, Fire Alarm Control Panels, PLCs, safety systems, or petrochemical/munitions industries is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET Level III in Fire Alarm Systems preferred; NICET Level I minimum.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drawing software, with experience in producing shop drawings (AutoCAD Electrical experience preferred).
  • Familiarity with JDE, SAP, or other ERP systems for parts, bills of materials, and project maintenance.

Rate/Salary: $90,000-$115,000/year
