Job Summary Description / Primary Purpose Of Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Battery Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of battery systems and sub-systems for our hearing aid products. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that all battery components meet functional, safety, and compliance standards while adhering to project timelines. You will conduct feasibility studies, evaluate technologies, materials, and components, and collaborate closely with suppliers and partners to select and qualify the best battery solutions.

As a Battery Systems Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications, ensuring seamless integration of battery systems within the overall product design. Your expertise will extend to reviewing hardware and firmware designs for impacts on power management, supporting after-sales service through troubleshooting, and advising manufacturing on process updates and component management affected by new products and technologies.

Job Responsibilities/Results

  • Lead battery systems and sub-systems design, development, and delivery to the project timeline, ensuring that all components meet functional, safety, and compliance standards
  • Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate technologies, materials, and components for battery systems, collaborating with suppliers and partners to select and qualify battery components and subsystems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications, ensuring that the battery systems are integrated effectively within the overall product design
  • Review Hearing Aid HW and FW designs for impacts to power management
  • Support aftersales service by assisting with troubleshooting using specialized knowledge of the battery system
  • Consult with manufacturing to support updates to processes and management of components that are impacted by new products and technologies
  • Decompose system and sub-system requirements, translating high-level battery requirements into specific specifications for the power management system
  • Create technical documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate project progress and share insights with stakeholders
  • Research existing and emerging battery technologies to correlate component properties to Hearing Aid performance and understand component interactions
  • Create, develop, and maintain product-level models that will be used to evaluate current product performance and determine the performance of future products
  • Conduct or supervise battery testing to ensure performance will meet expectations.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements

  • Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field related field; or
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field related field.

Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree and a 5 years of relevant industry experience; OR PhD degree with 2 years of experience
    • Hearing aid or medical device industry experience preferred
Competencies, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to perform complex engineering analysis and calculations in problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency in using typical bench-top equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, signal generators, audio analyzers, spectrum analyzers, voltmeters, etc.)
  • Comfortable in analyzing data and using data analytics tools
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work in fast-paced team environment
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance to make decisions and report progress
  • Demonstrated leadership role in projects, including ability to provide guidance and direction on the project to less experienced technical personnel
  • Experience with systems engineering tools, such as requirements management, configuration management, issue tracking, etc.
  • Ability to scale activities to most effectively meet the needs of development efforts of varying size and complexity
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently manage time, establish priorities, and direct the work of more junior engineers
