Provide leadership, coordination and administrative support in the ongoing development, implementation and administration of all phases of the Early Childhood Education Division curricula. The ECE Coordinator will develop and/or enhance curricula, select storybooks and other materials, train teachers, and assess educational programs for quality and adherence to the School Readiness Plan and tribal and federal early learning standards. The ECE Coordinator will specialize in all domains of the Child Development Early Learning Framework. In addition to developing and/or enhancing curriculum, this position will plan and provide onsite education for teachers and administrators.

  • Ensure that service plans, policies, protocols and procedures are uniformly completed and are in compliance with applicable Performance Standards, Head Start Act, Washington Administrative Code, and Tribal and/or Federal laws and policies.
  • In partnership with each teaching staff, complete annual performance evaluations, design professional development plans and ensure each plan is regularly evaluated for its impact on the teacher's effectiveness.
  • Track all teaching staff's progress on child individualization, completion of child portfolios, transition planning and completion of daily observation notes.
  • Ensure that teaching staff incorporate Creative Curriculum and other program curricula throughout the Early Childhood Education Division.
  • Work with the Department of Education to develop training programs that produce qualified educators. Planning and providing onsite education for teachers and administrations. Acts as a mentor and trainer to new and qualified teachers for the implementation of new curricula.
  • Provide oversight of the administration of all developmental screenings, score completed screenings and use end results to identify children who may qualify for special services. Ensure teaching teams follow Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), Individual Family Services Plans (IFSPs) and/ or Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in the classroom.
  • Responsible for aligning all curriculums to the Muckleshoot Early Childhood Program benchmarks in coordination with applicable federal and state standards.
  • Become a CLASS certified observer to ensure implementation of tools and skills that produce effective teacher/child interactions and guide professional development planning.
  • Generate Work Sampling child outcomes reports, analyze results and prepare a report describing the progression in meeting School Readiness goals.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.


Required Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education. Ten (10) years of teaching and instructor experience; five (5) years curriculum coordination experience; and three (3) years of progressively increased responsibility, including staff supervision. Current First Aid/CPR Certification; Food Handlers permit; must obtain a physical exam and TB prior to employment, and must be able to pass a background check.

Skill in

  • Developing curricula, including physical, emotional, social and cognitive development.
  • Developing, adapting, and providing training to staff members and parents.
  • Identifying children with special needs and providing appropriate referrals for assessment and accommodation.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Extensive experience with the federal review process, including preparation, interviewing and documentation, program self-assessment, and required follow-up.


Knowledge of

  • Principles, theories, concepts and practices of early childhood development encompassing infant through school age youth.
  • Current trends in Special Education including Sensory Processing Disorder, developmentally appropriate child assessments, childhood trauma, and inclusion.
  • Up-to-date early childhood education legislature and initiatives, child data software, Muckleshoot culture and language, and ongoing monitoring.


Ability to

  • Supervise and mentor/coach staff.
  • Plan, organize and direct the function and staff of a large sized organization. Must be a team player in a fast paced environment.
  • Communicate effectively with a broad diversity of individuals, both verbally and in writing.
  • Multi-task and able to meet tight deadlines.

The employee is occasionally required to walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Valid First Aid/CPR certification and Food Handlers permit required.
