General Purpose: Duties include managing the physical security program and planning and establishing security procedures and coordinating training development for the credit union. Responsible for maintaining compliance with the provisions of the security guidelines set for all credit union facilities and ensures adequate security safeguards are in place to protect the assets of the company.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and updates operating policies and procedures for security and ensures that personnel are trained and adhering to required policies and procedures.
  • Acts as primary liaison to internal teams in the event of a security incident. Coordinates incident response, investigation, liaison with law enforcement as needed, and implementing mitigating measures.
  • Monitors and recommends actions or physical structures to avoid conditions conducive to threats such as robbery or aggressive members. Ensures branches have up to date robbery kits and security measures in place.
  • Responds to security alarms or assists internal staff with questions related to security alarms at any time of the day or night. Dispatches law enforcement as needed or resolves alarms.
  • Manages security camera inventory and placement, works with law enforcement and internal legal counsel as needed during an investigation.
  • Responsible for building access controls and authorizing key and fob access to employees based on job function as well as maintenance and oversight of key and fob inventory.
  • Oversees alarm panel maintenance and replacement and serves as main contact for credit union alarm companies.
  • Reviews standards and processes to validate that all credit union property is secured, and appropriate recovery policies are in place.
  • Responsible for physical security standards that protect employees’ physical well-being.
  • Maintains security equipment, working with the Construction & Security Manager and subcontractors to ensure all equipment is functioning properly and is in good repair . Manages a scheduled maintenance and replacement system. Submits budget requests to proactively manage financial equipment.
  • Develops, implements, and updates operating policies and procedures for security. Works with internal stakeholders and resources and external sources to create effective training in keeping with financial institution security trends.
  • Oversees vendor routine maintenance/repairs over financial equipment.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that areas of direct responsibilities operate within guidelines set for State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Assists with ongoing security training for new employees and annual refreshers for all credit union employees.
  • Participates in user groups for applicable vendors. Participates in industry trade groups and educational programs to remain abreast of current issues, and requirements that impact the credit union.
  • Coordinates materials and responses for examinations, internal or external and ad hoc regulatory inquiries.
  • Responsible for abiding and complying with the policy for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations (BSA/AML) and the policy for compliance with office of foreign assets control laws and regulations (OFAC).

Job Knowledge

  • Knowledge of physical security practices that comply with current industry standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Knowledge of credit union rules, products, services, regulations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of credit union philosophies, techniques, policies, and practices and its interrelated functions.

Job Qualifications (Education/Experience)

  • Job requires a two-year college level of language, math and reasoning skills.
  • Five years or more of Physical/Corporate Security/Safety, Executive Protection, or related experience. 3 years experience with financial institution operations or a related industry required.

Must be on-call to address security alarms, emergencies, or other security matters.

Occasional travel to one of BHFCU’s branch locations or attendance at community events may be required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to walk or stand for differing periods of time with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled private office with minimal noise.

Mental And/or Emotional Requirements

Must be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to plan and direct the work activities of self and others. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
