Job Scope

The Employment Navigator performs highly advanced services and technical assistance work involves planning, development, and implementation of initiatives required to assist a job seeker navigate the multiple state and local agencies in order to obtain competitive integrated employment. This position is responsible for assisting with end to end employment assistance for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and individuals receiving services for Mental Health challenges. Navigators will work at sites across the state of Texas of Texas to educate, guide, and assist individuals and family members through the process of working with state agencies to obtain employment. Employment Navigators will serve as an advocate/ point of contact to facilitate communication and services among individuals, families, HHSC, TWC, TEA and other organizations, as necessary, to each employment goals. Works under moderate supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This position is a temporary, grant funded position.

Education/licensure

Bachelor's or associate degree in rehabilitation, business, and marketing or a related human services field and one year of paid or unpaid experience providing services to people with disabilities; or high school diploma/GED with two years of paid or unpaid experience providing services to people with disabilities.

Experience/Knowledge

Marketing/public relations/IDD experience desired. Ability to work independently and take initiative in situations where methods and procedures are not specifically defined. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written communication.

Physical requirements that are bona fide occupational qualifications essential to the performance of the job: Ability to provide skills training/ job coaching in any and all work situations that individuals served through the program would experience. Mobility and ability to bend and reach during and 8-12 hour day. Ability to lift a minimum of 15 pounds. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate, treat and monitor the needs of individuals served. Fine motor skills that lend to legible and accurate writing of reports, charting, scheduling, daily correspondence and presentation, either manually or orally. Work endurance sufficient to work an eight hour day with half hour break time. Work hours may vary significantly.
