Job Summary: BioConsortia is seeking a research associate to join its process development team in Davis, California. This position will be responsible for fermentation and downstream process optimization of microbial products for agricultural application. The successful candidate will work closely with all members of the company’s fermentation and formulation teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing hands-on expertise in the development of scalable and cost-effective fermentation and downstream processes for microbial products
  • Working closely with fermentation and formulation scientists on process development to improve the yield of desirable biomass and bioactivities of lead strains
  • Developing process SOPs and specifications for scale up, tech transfer, and manufacturing 
  • Producing high quality materials through fermentation for formulation, field development, and product registration 
  • Collaborating with other scientists, engineers, and technicians in product development and formulation
  • Preparation and delivery of reports, and technical presentations for members of the company’s broader science team


The successful candidate will possess the following skills:

  • MSc in Chemical/Biological Engineering, Microbiology, Fermentation Science, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, or related fields or BSc with minimum 2 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of industry or academic laboratory experience in fermentation and/or cell culture (microbial or mammalian cells) with a high level of competence in aseptic technique. 
  • Experience with SIP bioreactors and downstream processing equipment preferred.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • High level of competence in the supervision of technical staff and implementation of safety requirements and skills.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Must be permanently authorized to work in the USA.


Salary and benefits:

This position will include a competitive salary along with stock options and standard company benefits.   Estimated salary range is $50,000 to $65,000 depending on experience.
