Do you have a background in public health, healthcare systems, or genetics and a drive to make an impact at the state level? Join our team as a Genetics Program Consultant and play a vital role in improving genetic services for people across Washington.

Your Impact

As the Genetic Services Consultant, you will work closely with healthcare providers, payers, and public health professionals to improve access to genetic services, including genetic risk assessments, testing, counseling, and follow-up care. You will also manage statewide partnerships and guide the implementation of contracts that improve access to these critical services.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Collaborate with Partners: Identify and build relationships with healthcare providers, insurance payers, and other key stakeholders to improve access to genetic services. This includes working with primary care, tribal clinics, public health clinics, and other settings.
  • Promote Best Practices: Use evidence-informed approaches to promote and optimize genetic services across the state, helping to reduce barriers and improve outcomes for underserved populations.
  • Create Resources and Provide Training: Develop educational materials and training programs for clinicians, and work with a statewide workgroup of subject matter experts to ensure the latest information is shared and implemented.
  • Contract Management: Coordinate and manage contracts with Regional Genetics Clinics to ensure services are accessible to those in need. This includes processing invoices, tracking deliverables, and maintaining regular communication with contractors.

Location and Flexibility

We value work-life balance and offer the convenience of remote work with occasional in-person collaboration opportunities and required clinic visits . Attending events or working in the office is rarely required and would be scheduled in advance. This is a remote/home-based position available to applicants residing anywhere in Washington State, as well as those living near the Oregon/Washington border and the Idaho/Washington border. This position may work from home or the closest DOH facility. This project position is currently funded through September 30, 2026.

Required Qualifications

Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.

Five (5) years of experience in staffing, developing, managing, or consulting for genetic services or prenatal/pediatric healthcare programs focused on genetic and/or congenital conditions. This experience must include working with advisory committees, advocacy organizations, or professional associations related to healthcare.

A Bachelor’s degree or higher in community health, public health, social work, human genetics, or a closely related field may substitute for up to four (4) years of the required five (5) or more years of experience detailed above.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health genetics, public health, social work, human genetics, or an allied field (nursing, physical, occupational or speech therapy, social services, rehabilitative services, or others); AND 2 years of experience in genetic health services or a prenatal/ pediatric health care program.
  • One (1) year of experience in convening workgroups or managing collaborative projects with clinical or public health partners.
  • Experience with strategic communication, report writing, and creating educational materials for health care providers.

Conditions Of Employment

This position is covered by a bargaining unit for which the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE).

  • Perform my job duties either remotely from home or in person, on a drop-in basis, at the designated DOH site location.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes requiring overnight stays or trips out of state. You must be able to legally drive a vehicle or arrange alternative transportation for state business.
  • Moving objects and materials weighing as much as 25 pounds.
  • Engage in emergency response exercises and high-priority assignments as assigned during emergency events.
