Summary / Objective

The Associate Director, Scientific Communications will lead publication planning, oversee cross-functional congress planning and coverage, and support the development of innovative educational materials to foster scientific exchange with the medical community. S/he will also help manage vendors, budgets and internal systems.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the development of publication plans and chair the internal cross-functional Puma Publication Committee.
  • Oversee the execution of publication plans, ensuring timely congress presentations and journal publications. Manage the process and timelines for the development of abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Closely manage medical communications agencies and coordinate with internal and external authors and stakeholders to develop content for Puma-sponsored publications.
  • Serve in a project management capacity to facilitate coordination across teams (e.g., Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, HEOR, Biostatistics) to meet publication goals.
  • Identify gaps in existing data and lead or support the development of evidence-based publications, including review articles, landscape posters, and HEOR investigations, to mitigate scientific gaps. This may involve conceiving and developing content to fill gaps.
  • Establish and/or advise on the development of core communication tools including scientific platforms, lexicons, FAQs, etc.
  • Ensure scientific clarity in communications by providing scientific reviews of publications and related materials developed by Puma and partners.
  • Liaise with global partners to ensure transparency in publication plans and consistency in core messaging.
  • Understand the evolving publications landscape through participation in professional societies (e.g., ISMPP) and ensure compliance with Puma publication policy, publication recommendations/guidelines including ICMJE and GPP, Sunshine Act/PhRMA Code of Conduct, and transparency standards.
  • In coordination with Head of Medical Affairs and Field Medical, support congress planning by developing a strategic congress plan, facilitating planning meetings, and overseeing booth materials and activities.
  • Oversee the coverage of key data at scientific congresses by developing conference planners of data releases, devising plans to cover sessions in coordination with Field Medical, and leading the dissemination of meeting summaries to internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate across teams to collect, analyze and communicate emerging medical insights that may have an impact on strategy and priorities.
  • Attend major medical meetings to contribute to the execution of Medical Affairs conference strategy, provide operational support, and enhance therapeutic knowledge.
  • Lead the development of innovative materials that effectively communicate scientific rationale, results, and other relevant information to foster scientific exchange, ensuring compliance with industry requirements.
  • Provide support for training activities, including developing materials, helping to coordinate training sessions, and ensuring training records are documented.
  • Become an expert in the breast and lung cancer treatment landscapes and stay abreast of changes through literature and competitor surveillance.
  • Liaise as needed with external key stakeholders such as opinion leaders, investigators, partners, and medical communications and education vendors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced clinical/science degree (PhD, PharmD, or other advanced degree)
  • 5 years of Medical Affairs or other relevant experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Oncology experience
  • Ability to handle multiple demands in a fast-paced environment and exercise appropriate judgment
  • Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to strategically synthesize and simplify complicated scientific topics into understandable messages for broad audiences
  • Experience in medical publications development as well as scientific literature identification and evaluation
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors
  • The ability to positively influence stakeholders in a team environment for greater outcomes

Travel

Travel may be required up to 20%

Compensation Range

The base compensation range for this position is $185k - $215k per year, higher compensation may be available for someone with advanced skills and/or experience.
