EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park in Mobile, Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Executive Director. The Park is operated by the USS ALABAMA Battleship Commission, a self-supporting agency of the State of Alabama. The Battleship Commission provides oversight to the operation of the park, which serves as a memorial to all Alabamians who served in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Executive Director, analogous to “General Manager” or “CEO”, reports to the Commission and is responsible for long-term planning and day-to-day management of the Park and its assets, which include two National Historic Landmarks: Battleship USS ALABAMA, and Submarine USS DRUM. These responsibilities include management of capital projects; supervision of eleven operating departments; maintenance, restoration and preservation; fund-raising and revenue generation; artifact collection; marketing and public relations efforts, management of staff, volunteers, park vendors and contractors; preparation of the annual budget; approve all purchasing of goods and services in accordance with the approved annual budget and bid laws of the State of Alabama, and all other aspects of park management.

Minimum Requirements Include

  • Knowledge of and a deep appreciation of the U.S. military
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior level management with extensive supervision responsibilities
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the management of a tourism-related business
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Extensive public speaking experience to a diverse group of citizens
  • Government relations experience dealing with all levels, to include local, state, and federal agencies
  • Financial ability to be bonded
