Responsibilities

The Manager of Clinical Nursing Education for Newport Healthcare is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing educational programs for nursing services throughout the Newport HealthCare organization, ensuring that education is evidence based and all current regulatory requirements and organizational policies are incorporated. The Educator responsibilities include working collaboratively with nursing leadership to assess the educational needs of nursing staff, and to develop, coordinate, implement, and track educational programs based on these assessments to ensure safe, exemplary nursing care for our clients.

Responsibilities And Accountabilities

  • Conducts educational needs assessments continuously; uses results of assessments to develop and implement educational programs for the nursing staff.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing leadership to identify educational opportunities based on trends in nursing related incident reports, the Nursing Practice Act, and regulatory requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing leadership to establish and implement exemplary nursing practices that are evidence based, patient centered and standardized throughout the sites.
  • Provides education in performance improvement initiatives.
  • Acts as a resource for nursing staff regarding clinical care.
  • Maintains current competency in effective de-escalation of patients using Collaborative Problem Solving , therapeutic self, relationship-based care, and trauma informed care, as applicable to role.
  • Collaborates with nurse leadership to ensure nursing care complies with state, federal, local laws, Joint Commission and organizational policies for the delivery of safe and effective care.
  • Collaborates with the Newport education team and Residential Supervisors to identify educational needs for care coordinators to ensure safe medication administration, safe management of medical emergencies, and best practices for use of CPI techniques.
  • Assists with developing, reviewing, and revising policies and operating guidelines related to nursing care.
  • Plans and coordinates all aspects of orientation for nurses including ensuring that competencies are assessed and documented during the orientation period and annually.
  • Revises and updates competencies as needed. Supports nursing leadership in developing and implementing competencies for onboarding nurse managers.
  • Rounds at sites as needed, collaborates with nurse managers to identify educational needs and to provide education for nursing staff. Provides individual on the spot coaching as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with nursing leadership to develop individual performance improvement plans when necessary.
  • Collaborates with PrairieCare nurse educators to support the standardization of nursing practice throughout the PrairieCare/Newport system.
  • Collaborates with PraireCare Nurse Educators to extend educational/CE opportunities to nursing staff throughout the Newport sites.
  • Oversees and directs the PrairieCare Acute Crisis Engagement Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BSN required and current licensure as an RN required.
  • At least 2 years of experience as an educator in a Behavioral Health setting.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
  • Good public speaking skills and ability to coordinate and execute engaging presentations toa variety of audiences.
  • Advanced critical thinking skills, problem-solving ability and the ability to communicate and make safe judgment calls in stressful situations.
  • Must be able to communicate in a professional manner in both verbal and written format.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks.

Work Schedule: Full-time position equates to 40 or more hours per week. This position is generally expected to work Monday - Friday, during core business hours. The work schedule and

the number of hours may vary and are subject to change based on business or other needs. Hours may fluctuate based upon the 24/7 environment with operations in all US time zones.

Occasionally, there may be business functions that will require your presence on additional nights and/or weekends.
