Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Antibiotic Wastewater Project Chemist to join our esteemed Chemistry Laboratory. In this integral role, you will prepare and analyze wastewater samples for antibiotics as part of a comprehensive wastewater epidemiology initiative. You will also investigate a variety of contaminants including opioids, radionuclides, metals, and pesticides.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct highly intricate chemical analyses on environmental, clinical, or food matrices to ascertain contaminant levels using advanced instrumentation in adherence to EPA, FDA, or CLIA regulatory standards.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Quality Assurance protocols.
  • Sustain proficiency and enhance technical expertise by successfully completing Proficiency Testing (PT) samples.
  • Maintain operational integrity of assigned laboratory equipment through regular preventative maintenance and necessary repairs.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation, including instrument logbooks, technical reports, and updates to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Uphold a safe and organized laboratory environment.
  • Participate in training and cross-training initiatives on various analytical methodologies within the laboratory.
  • Assist supervisors with additional related tasks as required.

Required Skills

  • In-depth technical knowledge and proficiency in operating sophisticated laboratory instruments such as LC/MS/MS, LC/QTOF, and GC/MS/MS; familiarity with Sciex equipment such as QTRAP 6500+ and X500QTOF is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with team members and external contacts.
  • Comprehensive understanding of good laboratory practices (GLP) and good automated laboratory practices (GALP).
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical, organic, and inorganic chemistry, complemented by relevant experience over the past two years.
  • Specialized insight into scientific disciplines including information systems, physics, and statistics.
  • Practical understanding of laboratory safety and biosafety protocols.
  • Thorough familiarity with pertinent state and federal regulations, including those from the EPA, FDA, DEA, ISO 17025, and CLIA.
  • Proficient in designing analytical techniques and developing new methods of analysis.
  • Capable of contributing to epidemiological and statistical reports based on compiled data.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in chemical or physical science from an accredited educational institution.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as an analytical chemist.
