Job Description

The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently accepting applications/resumes for a Program Director for our B3 Middle School Aftercare Program. This program is a grant-funded program serving students attending 6th through 9th grades at 3 sites within Perth Amboy and is funded by the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Program.

The B3 Program Director is responsible for all aspects of managing and implementing a high-quality educational program that includes Aftercare, Saturday Teen Nights, and Summer Camp. The B3 Program Director must also possess database management and reporting skills; show proficiency in the use of Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint; the ability to coach staff on related procedures and issues as needed; as well as possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, team orientation and collaborative style of management, strong problem-solving skills, and detail orientation.

Hours: must be available to work a full-time schedule Monday-Friday, including after school program hours, occasional Saturdays, summer school programming, and other times as requested or required to oversee the program.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of supervising school-based programs with a primary responsibility for operations, budget management and staff supervision.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field, preferably in any field related to children or business.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Strong Administrative skills.
  • Computer proficiency.

Essential Functions

  • Plans for and implements extended learning opportunities for students to positively impact academic outcomes and build student connections to school.
  • Establishes a safe and effective learning environment for students.
  • Supervises and supports teaching staff in order to implement a successful program, observes classes and maintains records.
  • Communicates with Principal and Branch Director for program planning, marketing, and organization.
  • Acts as liaison with community partners, school staff, students, parents and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Engages with parents and families to encourage a community-centered program.
  • Complete necessary reports and submit to state.
  • Maintain participant files, program forms, and applicable licenses.
  • Meeting with key program staff, teachers, stakeholders, collaborators, evaluator, etc. regularly.
  • Coordinate 21st CCLC advisory board meetings and ensure implementation of sustainability plan.
  • Supervise site coordinators, administrative staff and program volunteers.
  • Conduct program orientation for staff, parents, students, volunteers, and key program staff.
  • Attend mandated 21st Century program directors’ meetings and required professional development trainings.
  • Conducts consistent assessment of program and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with evaluation requirements (data-entry into federal and state data-collection systems).
  • Ensure the program meets all licensing requirements of the state of New Jersey.
  • Monitor the program budget, assuring that staffing and operating expenses are in line with budget and in compliance with grant requirements.
  • Oversee the development and growth of a collaborative and productive Parents Council to engage parents in the leadership and support processes of the program.
  • Handles disciplinary actions, when or if necessary.
  • Addresses inquiries and complaints, and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Interface with parents on all concerns related to the program, staff interactions, participant’s behavior and attendance.
  • Organize supplies, materials, equipment, and transportation for program.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands collaborative relationships within the community in accordance with the organization’s strategic plans.
  • Assists with community events, Healthy Kids Day, special events, fundraisers, etc.
  • Report any suspected case of child abuse immediately as outlined in the Child Abuse Prevention policy.
  • Adhere to all standards outlined in the "Employee Handbook".
  • Keep Branch Director informed of all first aid concerns, discipline or other significant problems.
