Position Introduction/Key Duties

Cimarron is seeking experienced Instrumentation Technicians with experience installing strain gauges to support the development of space launch vehicle hardware in Decatur, AL. This position is expected to last 1 to 2 months with the possibility of extension. Per diem may be available to candidates not local to the Decatur, AL area.

Key Duties

  • Interpret instrumentation drawings provided by the customer.
  • Install strain gauge sensors on a composite test article in accordance with the instrumentation drawings.
  • Inspect strain gauges to ensure they are in good health.
  • Solder and route wires from strain gauges.
  • Perform continuity testing to ensure the gauges are soldered correctly.
  • Troubleshoot and repair damaged gauges, as needed.
  • Document work performed for each day.
  • Coordinate with management to establish work priorities.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.


Required/Desired Skills, Experience, And Education

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for consideration at this time.
  • Ability to pass a physical examination (visual acuity, color perception, respiratory, and etc.) to meet production certification and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work any assigned shift.
  • Experience with soldering small components.
  • Understanding of the purpose of strain gauges.
  • Previous experience in cable routing/management.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings derived from models.
  • General shop skills, including Foreign Object Debris (FOD) prevention, material handling, safety, electrostatic discharge (ESD), and contamination control.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in a variety of measuring instruments, including micrometers, meters, calipers, and multimeters.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform duties in an agile environment.
  • General knowledge of production quality systems and requirements in daily operations.
  • Well-versed in safety regulations, including identifying, reporting, and correcting safety issues.
  • 1 or more year(s) of related experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.


Desired Skills, Experience, And Education

  • Prior experience installing strain gauges.
  • Experience conducting wire harness installation tests, including dielectric withstanding insulation, insulation resistance, and continuity.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and methods and the ability to apply knowledge to streamline operations and eliminate waste.
  • Previous electrical and wire harness certification to NASA standard NASA-STD-8739.4.
