The Program Specialist will be responsible for collaborating with team members and community partners to develop, manage, and implement quality improvement (QI) and special project initiatives with American Indian and Alaska Native communities. This position will be responsible for building and maintaining trusted relationships with assigned community contacts; providing insights and guidance to internal team members who are providing QI services to healthcare organizations serving tribal communities; understanding QI approaches, and offering meaningful adaptations to approaches for the American Indian populations. This includes the responsibility to mentor and coach team members to expand their knowledge and skills. This position will require interaction, both virtually and in-person, with federally operated and tribally operated hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other settings. Must have an understanding of these facility types and have a history of working with tribal groups. Essential Functions

  • Collaborates and/or coordinates with team members and healthcare professionals to develop and implement QI projects or corrective action responses for tribal-serving healthcare organizations.
  • This may include liaising between team members, healthcare facilities, tribal entities, and leadership teams; virtual and face-to-face coaching and presentations with healthcare providers; reinforcing a community-level approach to work; technical writing and reports; data collection and project documentation.
  • Serves as a representative of the company and team at external meetings.
  • Promotes company expertise and QI solutions to prospective clients
  • Partners with team members and internal/external customers to determine and evaluate methods to encourage participation in the QI and/or special project initiatives.
  • Tailors or adapts QI, communication, and evaluation approaches to best suit the community being served.
  • Maintains positive relationships with internal and external partners to ensure continued participation.
  • Serves as liaison with internal and external partners to ensure projects, plans, and/or products are completed satisfactorily
  • Offers expertise in and seeks to learn more of the history, values, and cultural knowledge of the community and/or tribes assigned


Requirements

  • Four-year degree in health care or related field and/or equivalent training and/or experience required; Masters degree preferred;
  • 8 years experience in health care with an emphasis on research, collaboration, and/or project management.
  • Significant experience preferred in the focus area of projects
  • Demonstrated experience working closely with Indigenous communities, including a deep understanding of cultural, historical, and social contexts
  • Experience in implementing culturally responsive practices, including collaborating with Indigenous leaders and partners, to achieve shared QI goals
  • Understanding of the operational environment of healthcare facilities serving Tribal communities, including the Indian Health Service (IHS) and “638” facilities
