Job Description

Primarily responsible for developing, executing and maintaining strategies for sanitation and pest control programs to ensure high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.

Job Duties:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor sanitation policies, procedures, and practices (including Master Sanitation Schedules) to ensure the plant maintains a high degree of cleanliness.
  • Ensure employees are aware of the safety hazards inherent with exposure to and/or using chemicals and receive relevant training in safe chemical handling.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations relative to sanitation and pest control.
  • Works cross functionally with Operations, Engineering & Maintenance, EHS, HR to ensure employees have the correct tools and supplies for successful execution of the sanitation program.
  • Maintains a relationship with 3rd party Sanitation and Pest Control Providers
  • Responsible for development of appropriate training programs and ensures training and education is delivered to management and employees, including annual refresher training.
  • Stay current with sanitation regulations and industry best practices and develops appropriate strategies and policies accordingly.
  • Ensures all SSOP's are current and reviewed annually.
  • Provides technical support to Operations and other departments on the effectiveness of plant sanitation and cleaning programs.
  • Guide manufacturing facility during special plant sanitation issues including microbiological, allergen, and environmental control and engage appropriate 3rd parties as appropriate.
  • Ensure Sanitation Validation and Verification programs are robust and executed.
  • Participate in annual vendor surveys, ensure plant participation and communicate results.
  • Provide standardized testing and data management programs to enable trend analysis and KPI monitoring.

Qualification

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Sanitation, Food Safety, Food Technology, or a related field with a background in Biology, Microbiology and/or Chemistry preferred. Extensive practical experience may be considered as an appropriate substitute
  • 5+ years of food plant experience
  • Experience with regulatory, third party, and customer audits
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with diverse sanitizing applications
  • Extensive knowledge of CIP systems and process automation
  • Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate wet cleaning and dry-cleaning methodology and be able to identify the appropriate cleaning method and make effective recommendations based on scientific principles
  • Experience in successfully addressing environmental sanitation challenges in areas such as drains, floors, walls, roofs, and equipment
  • Experience with electronic reporting and Microsoft Applications preferred
  • PCQI certification preferred
  • Must demonstrate proven critical thinking, people and team development skills, strategic aptitude, and independent leadership.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team environment with cross functional departments
  • Able to communicate professionally, both orally and written
  • Able to understand and analyze issues involving food manufacturing/food safety, project management, mathematics (including statistics), and technical and legal documents
  • Able to provide supervision, guidance, effective training, and counsel to others
  • Able to effectively organize, coordinate, and execute
  • Able to understand food and environmental regulations and their impact on the organization and our customers
  • Able to understand technical documents
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to follow operating instructions as outlined
