MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH COORDINATOR

DIVISION OF PUBLIC HEALTH

CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for the position of Maternal & Child Health Coordinator (Coordinator of Community Initiatives) for the Division of Public Health within the Health and Human Services Department. Under the direction of the Chief of Community Health, the position will conduct detailed administration of local, state and federal grants to support community initiatives relating to Division of Public Health priorities. The position will collaborate with community, clinical neighborhoods and social service agency partners to serve as a coordinator for new and existing initiatives and offer technical assistance as assigned. The position will carry out specific duties as it relates to public health functions, programs and/or activities related to the Greater Worcester Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The position will serve out specific duties as it relates to public health functions, programs and/or activities, specifically for maternal and child health to improve the health of mothers, infants and youth as well as the overall health outcomes of residents Worcester and our alliance towns.

Essential Elements

  • Support and work collaboratively with local coalitions to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with area perinatal, newborn, reproductive health, and adolescent health organizations and resources.
  • Develop internal and external expertise on supporting the health of birthing people, infants, children, and adolescents.
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with the community and local community partner organizations to address the complexities of equitable access to care for communities of color.
  • Work with existing community partners to sustain the fetal infant mortality review.
  • Implement efforts and initiatives to support maternal and child health across the Public Health district including Worcester and surrounding Central MA Regional Public Health Alliance towns.
  • Participate in an interdisciplinary team to support the CHIP and interdepartmental activities as needed to ensure alignment with program goals.
  • Work with the Chief of Community Health and the community health team to build capacity for community engagement.
  • Lead the development, mobilization and distribution of educational messages for program intervention for the maternal and child health program.
  • Monitor grant requirements and deliverables as required by the funders or stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with sub-contractors and provide oversight of grant deliverables.
  • Work with the budget specialist and Chief of Community Health to manage annual budgets and contracts as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chief of Community Health or designee.
  • Conduct public health policy research and development for action to local Boards of Health.
  • Attend local, regional and statewide trainings and meetings as requested.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Business/Public Administration, or other related discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and five (5) years of experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above requirements.
  • Three (3) years of experience in the Maternal & Child Health field.
  • Experience working with health equity and the anti-racism framework within the life-course perspective.
  • Experience with coalition building with community-based organizations and working with diverse populations.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with employee supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with grant and contract management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Community Development, Public Administration or other health related degree.
  • Five (5) years of expertise in maternal and child health including maternal/ women's health and perinatal/infant health.
  • Five (5) years of experience with managing projects/contracts related to Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Community/Economic Development, and/or Community Health.
  • Five (5) years of experience developing and maintaining professional working relationships with community based and/or public health organizations.
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience with managing state and/or federal grant projects.

SALARY RANGE: $29.52 - $38.68 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
