Summary

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. You oversee the accounting department and are responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position works with various departments and the accounting team on overhead and margin measurement, budget development and profitability and forecasting models. You are involved in decision making and direction setting for the department.

This is a full time FLSA exempt position. This position requires at least 40 work hours per week with the ability to work more if required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs and supports the Accounting Department, helping set department goals, KPIs, and ensuring they have the staffing and resources to meet the strategic objectives of the company and supporting the Accounting employees’ individual growth.
  • Directs the general ledger, accounting and budgeting functions of the organization ensuring historic performance and future projections are accurate and timely.
  • Protects the assets of the organization using sound treasury management techniques and practices and developing and overseeing sound control procedures.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversees the Accounting Department, including project cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, bank reconciliations and job costing.
  • Oversees payroll function and overall responsibility for accuracy in payroll processing.
  • Works closely with Project Directors and Project Financial Coordinators on project forecasting reports, ensuring completion and accuracy.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Reports to Leadership Team on cost accounting.

Financial Analysis

  • Manages overhead and margin measurement.
  • Analyzes financial statements and developing financial performance metrics.
  • Manages the production of financial reports, including internal and external statements.
  • Oversees and completes corporate budgeting process and monthly variance analyses reporting to all teams and departments.

Department Administration

  • Works with all outside agencies to complete company financial audits.
  • Oversees regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance.
  • Assists CFO with guiding the company's strategic financial decisions.

Minimum Requirements

Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance function.
  • CPA preferred, but not required.
  • Five years’ experience in construction accounting with management experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in Timberline Construction Accounting software or the ability to learn to navigate and use the software quickly is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, technology, analytical and management skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant accounting standards and requirements, such as GAAP, International Financial Reporting Standards, and SEC financial reporting regulations.
