The Systems Engineer is responsible for enterprise level system maintenance and upgrades to produce secure, reliable and scalable systems. This role will ensure that company systems have high availability to customers and internal users. This position will maintain, upgrade and manage our software, hardware and network infrastructure. The Systems Engineer provides security administration on end points, firewalls and server environments. This position requires competence in troubleshooting hardware, software and networking issues, as well as ensuring that all computing operations run with optimal performance and security.

Responsibilities

• Configuring and maintaining networked computer systems, including hardware, system software, and applications.
• Firewall, VPN, and router and switch configuration.
• Maintain Linux based server operating systems for development and production environments.
• Ensuring data is stored securely and backed up regularly.
• Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, networking, and system issues when they arise.
• Replacing and upgrading defective or outdated components when necessary.
• Monitoring system performance to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely.
• Researching and recommending new approaches to improve the networked computer system and security.
• Documenting any processes which employees need to follow in order to successfully work within our computing system.
• Maintain and test business resumption procedures.
• Research and recommend hardware and software solutions.
• Manage Ansible playbooks or other similar solutions.
• Undertake additional assigned duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Working knowledge of distributed systems, databases, web servers, and microservice architecture.
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience.
• Amazon Web Services or similar cloud providers.
• 3+ years of experience in system administration, network administration, or related field.
• Proficiency in Linux server administration and shell scripting.
• Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking knowledge.
• Strong understanding of networking principles and protocols.
• Experience with enterprise-level system maintenance and upgrades.
• Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues effectively.
• Experience with configuring and maintaining networked computer systems, including hardware, system software, and applications.
• Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery procedures.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Capacity to adapt to changing technologies and environments.
• Spanish speaking bi-lingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Working Settings

• Full-time Salaried Exempt, not eligible for overtime.
• Office hours are 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday, additional hours may be required depending on priorities.
• Based in the Purple Wave headquarters in Manhattan, KS.
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Must be able to access various departments of a given location.
  
  

Compensation

• The salary varies based on experience and qualifications, but typically ranges from $70,000 to $90,000 per year.
• Monthly Bonus Program - determined by the Company’s monthly revenue result and are paid on a “percent to plan” payout formula. (90% = $300, 100% = $600, 110% = $900, 120% = $1,200).
• Monthly phone stipend in accordance with the Company’s cell phone policy, currently $120/month.
• Health, Dental, and Vision starting the first of the month after 60 days of employment.
• 401(k) plan with an employer match up to 4% starting the first day of employment.
• Company-paid Life Insurance benefit of $25,000 with options to add more through employee contribution starting the first of the month after 60 days of employment.
• Personal Time Off (PTO) annual amount of 120 hours which is prorated based on the number of days between the 60th day of employment and the end of the calendar year. May vary to comply with state requirements.
• Eligible to participate in the Company Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) after 90 days of employment, with enrollment opportunities each May and November.
