Position Purpose

Under minimal supervision and acting on own initiative, this position is responsible for working closely with the Security Supervisor and team. The Lead Security Guard is responsible for protecting a person, organization, or asset in the case of an incident. Duties include monitoring a specific area, evicting trespassers, and writing reports detailing any occurrences during shift. The overall duty of a Lead Security Guard is to protect the Company’s property, employees, and visitors.

Functional Responsibility

  • Provides hands-on support, assigns daily tasks, ensures employees have proper tools and equipment, and monitors output
  • Leads in a constructive manner by example; demonstrates and encourages a strong work ethic and fosters an environment of trust and respect
  • Guides team in the proper use of assets and resources to avoid waste and ensure cost-effective operations
  • Ensures clear communication amongst the team; follows-up on assignments to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Informs supervisor of staffing needs
  • Ensures employees conduct themselves in a safe manner and that work areas are kept clean to prevent safety hazards; immediately reports safety issues and concerns to management
  • Supports change initiatives and company decisions in an effective manner
  • Communicates closely with supervisor regarding employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner
  • Maintains company and regulatory compliance during day-day-operations and advises supervisor of any infractions; assigns and monitors employee breaks and lunches and provides backup relief
  • Provides timely feedback to employees on a daily basis and informs supervisor of team/individual performance, recognition, training needs, deficiencies, etc.

Essential Duties

  • Oversees Security Guards on weekend shifts as the backup or in absence of the Supervisor
  • Creates schedules, assignments and workflow of team as needed
  • Patrols and monitors activities on the Company's premises regularly to discourage criminals and ensure the environment is safe and secure
  • Evicts trespassers and violators and detains perpetrators while following legal protocols before relevant authorities
  • Controls the entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and vehicles according to protocols
  • Completes a 7-point inspection on international trucks
  • Monitors surveillance cameras for any disruptions or unlawful activities
  • Provides detailed reports to management on a daily activity and any incidents that may have occurred
  • Trains new guards and covers breaks and lunches
  • Communicates effectively using devices such as two-radios in a clear and concise manner
  • Alerts and coordinates police or fire departments in case of an emergency, such as a fire or presence of unauthorized persons
  • Performs CPR or first aid when needed
  • Other duties may be assigned

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1+ years security experience
  • 6+ months leadership experience or progressive responsibility
  • 18 years of age or older

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Valid Security Guard card

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Must be able to remain calm and rational in emergencies
  • Must exhibit excellent communication skills
  • Ability to train in the proper procedure of security guards
  • Ability to read and interpret warning and danger signs
  • Computer experience with scheduling and timekeeping and submitting work orders

Working Conditions

  • General winery environment
  • Required to drive automatic vehicle or equipment
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to the elements/temperature variations
  • Exposure to weather-related temperature & humidity extremes
  • Extended Hours
  • Required to wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
  • Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment
  • Work in close quarters or confined spaces
  • Occasionally may be required to lift and carry cases of wine
  • May need to determine color, taste and smell of wine using eyes, tongue, and nose

California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Non-Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $18.46 to $28.86. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
