Huntsman is seeking a QC Lab Chemist supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in Rock Hill, SC. This position will report to the Quality Manager.

Job Scope

This position is responsible for testing Quality Control (QC) laboratory samples. Person is in training and responsible adhering to all standardized operating procedures (SOP), chemical hygiene plan (CHP), DIAF, training documents, and company policies. Required BS in Chemistry or other similar science.

As The QC Lab Chemist, You Will

  • Be assigned to all duties assigned in IMS policies
  • Works under direct supervision
  • In training:
    • To perform QC analytical testing according to SOP
    • To troubleshoot QC laboratory instrumentation
    • Or has user or limited working knowledge of all QC instrument software

  • Understand of math, statistics, and chemistry
  • Have knowledge of QC instrumentation (GC, GPC)
  • Have knowledge of and relies on standardized methods and best laboratory practices
  • Participate in Gauge R&R and method optimization and development projects
  • Perform SQC’s and SPC’s as needed. Report all out of control SQC and SPC to QC management
  • Disposal of lab waste (requires wearing a respirator)
  • Be able to perform ≥150 QC tests on incoming samples per month
  • Maintain an audit error rate of ≤15% of documented QC work completed per month
  • Perform data review on own work
  • Restock consumables and stores incoming chemicals
  • Keep laboratory in presentable condition
    • Wash and dry glassware
    • Empty laboratory waste
    • Maintain lab cleanliness
    • Complete laboratory cleaning duties
    • Perform Chemical Hygiene Plan checklist
    • Store QC retain samples
    • Return in-process samples to the plant daily
    • Prepare and standardize reagents and solutions when empty or 1 day prior to expiration
    • Complete QC laboratory inventory as assigned
    • Comply with all Company policies.
    • Support department goals.
    • Require adherence to positive and collaborative work environment - teamwork
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Complete shift turnover document(s)

    Other General Responsibilities

    • Follow instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by Quality Manager or QC Coordinator.
    • Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.

    Required Qualifications

    You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

    The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Similar Science with 3+ years of work-related experience.
    • May be substituted with 5+ years’ experience in a chemical lab/environment.

    Specific Skills And Knowledge

    • Skilled to utilize computer programs and understand systems.
    • Communication skills to interface with all levels of the organization – shop floor through management.

    • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for job success.

    Working Conditions

    • General office mixed with laboratory/factory environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 35% of the time.
    • The working environment is generally favorable.
    • Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is mainly performed within a laboratory/office environment, with standard laboratory equipment available.
    • Factory environment will require compliance with standard PPE requirements.
    • 12 hour shift from 7p – 7a on a 2/2/3 schedule after day shift training, M-F 7a – 4p.
