Internship Program Overview:

At Netsmart our internship program is called our "Futures Program" because we truly believe that you are our FUTURE. This program will be a 8- week program based at the Netsmart in Overland Park, Kansas. The FUTURES Program includes a balance between on-the-job learning, hands on client-based work, professional development opportunities, leadership exposure and several social/networking events throughout the summer. If you aren't local to the Kansas City metro, are we will have housing options for you available (certain criteria will have to be met to qualify for housing).

Security Engineer Future Position Overview:

The security engineer future will be building relationships and operating with members of IT Security and Compliance, Enterprise Architecture, Network Engineering, Support Operations and with functional areas across IT and the business to raise and support the security posture of the company. They will gain exposure to enterprise firewall clusters, VPN devices, IDS/IPS, SIEM and various vulnerability assessment tools and solutions, security systems and solutions, and to security engineering requirements, standards and guidelines, processes, and procedures. A future will be involved in team review of applicable security support models and identify opportunities for continued process improvement, as well as monitor and review requests with team members for changes to assure they do not introduce any security and/or compliance risks to the enterprise and meet security requirements, guidelines, and compliance requirements.

Requirements:

  • Anticipated graduation date of: Dec. 2025, May 2026, Dec. 2026, May 2027
  • Working towards bachelor’s degree in Information Security or Computer Science with emphasis in Information Security
  • Demonstrated passion for cybersecurity, technology, solution design, and self-study
  • Involvement in school clubs or organizations regarding security
  • Programming/scripting experience is a plus
  • Desire to learn regulatory compliance requirements (PCI, HIPAA, SSAE Option 18, NIST standards)

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge or concepts in AWS space with various AWS services and implementations (i.e., VPCs, SES, RC2, R3, Route 53, Cloud Formation, etc.) or Azure equivalents.
  • Exposure to Identity Management, Access Management, and Directory Services technologies including LDAPv3, SQL and NoSQL technologies.
